Two people, one bench, no need for words.
I watched them for a minute before raising the camera. White roses crowded the path, her red shirt matched the begonias, and the evening light turned the concrete pink. I stayed back and shot from above.

8,000 square metres of roses are blooming in Baulkham Hills right now.

Roxborough Park Rose Garden opened in 1972 and ranks among the biggest in the Sydney region. In 2023 the garden was renamed the Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Rose Garden after a full refurbishment.

Go hunting for these three:

• Australian Bi-Centennial Rose
• Hills Shire Council Rose
• Olympic Gold Rose

Grab your camera and someone who needs a good weekend walk. Smell every bed you pass. The garden is open to the public, and Waves Fitness & Aquatic Centre next door serves coffee.

Tawny family Our 2nd Northmead scouts group has new neighbours this season. A pair of tawny frogmouths chose a tree on our grounds for their nest, and we got a front row seat to the whole story.

Mum and dad took turns sitting on the eggs. With eyes narrowed to slits and feathers fluffed, they look like a broken branch. Plenty of us walked past before someone pointed them out.

Then the chick hatched. A small grey ball of fluff now sits tucked under a parent, and we feel lucky to have watched it happen.

A few facts about our new residents:

• Tawny frogmouths are not owls. They belong to the nightjar family
• Both parents share the nest duties
• They hunt at night for insects, slugs and small animals
• Their camouflage is good enough to fool anyone #tawnyfrogmouth #scoutsnsw #australianbirds #wildlifephotography by @ramprakasan

Giant rocks have landed on the Sydney Opera House Forecourt, and they weigh nothing.

Iwagumi Air Scape by ENESS fills the space with air-filled boulders. Up close they look like thousands of tonnes of stone. Wander through them in daylight, then come back at sunset when the whole formation glows in colour and light.

Kids get the best surprise. Their movement triggers a soft soundscape of native birds, frogs and mountain streams.

When fog meets fire and steel 🌫️🚂

Loco 3801 cutting through the mist on a heritage run to the Blue Mountains, Steam and fog blending until you can't tell one from the other. In service since 1943, still working the same tracks as Sydney's electric trains today.

3801 was withdrawn from service in 2007 after her boiler certification expired, and what followed was an extensive overhaul beginning in 2008 at Chullora Railway Workshops, covering a full chassis rebuild, frame and wheelset repairs, and replacement cylinders. Transport Heritage NSW's staff and volunteers spent years bringing her back,

Cold platform, early start, worth every minute.

“A thousand lights reaching for the cosmos — and for one brief, glorious moment, they got there.”

This is Star-Bound — Vivid Sydney 2026’s flagship drone show, featuring 1,000 drones choreographed above Cockle Bay at Darling Harbour, the biggest drone show program in the festival’s history. The show returned triumphantly after being cancelled the previous year over safety concerns , and on opening night it painted the winter sky above Sydney in swirling violet light — the word “VIVID” blazing overhead while the city’s towers watched on below.

The Mountains Are Calling — And Blackheath Needs You This Autumn 🍂
Blackheath is glowing right now — and if there was ever a time to visit, it’s this autumn.
The Blue Mountains has long drawn visitors for its dramatic escarpments and crisp mountain air, but Blackheath’s quieter magic — its garden villages, heritage guesthouses, and misty lookouts — is something truly special.
This season carries extra meaning. With the Great Western Highway closed beyond Mt Victoria and the Mt Wilson Road also impacted, the small businesses and families that make Blackheath “Blackheath” have taken a real hit. Every coffee, every meal, every night’s stay in a local guesthouse matters more than ever right now.
So come up for the foliage. Stay for the community. 🌿🏔️ by @ramprakasan

🍂 A bittersweet autumn in the Upper Blue Mountains…

Road closures have quietly cut off Hartley and Mount Victoria as well as Mount Wilson — towns that rely on the autumn tourist season as their lifeline.

But just a little further down , Blackheath is bursting with colour.

Every street feels like a living canvas — golden leaves, crisp air, and that perfect autumn glow. It’s easily one of the best spots to soak in the season right now.

👉 Bittersweet, yes — but still breathtaking. Don’t miss it. by @ramprakasan

Front row to the future.
NYE 2025 lit up from the very edge of the Sydney Opera House sails — closer than ever before. Fireworks cascading overhead, colour wrapping the icons, and the year beginning exactly how it should… bold, bright, and unforgettable. Starting 2025 with a truly colourful bang ✨🎆 by @ramprakasan
