The challenge was bringing emotional depth to the homogenizing effect of the under-cranked camera. Sporting Beach Club is a Lebanese institution where olive skin turns to lobster skin as its fed with carrot oil and Mexican beers. Where even my cynicism is not exempt from the temptation of a fanfare of stares. So I was happy the weather turned sour to match @jadrahme 's good humor- and for all things we can criticise about the Lebanese people- we could atleast celebrate our iconic, impervious, and enduring vanity. @bokjadesign is one of Lebanons greatest design exports, artfully reconstituting ottoman princess dresses, Uzbek suzanis, dreamy Ikats, bedouin blankets, and essentially anything whimsical with a weave. Founded by my mother, Maria Hibri and her partner @hudabaroudi - I often find my missing pants and shirts embroidered into their pillows and wall hangings. Above are snippets from a campaign I made for them in 2022. What inspires rage is that every location I filmed in was categorically attacked by the IDF Forces in the past months. The area of the already shell-shocked building in the first slide has been flattened, rendered into concrete dunes. The @palmyrahotelbaalbeck windows and furnishings were shattered. The Temple of Bacchus in Baalbak has and continues to be at terrible risk as its surroundings crumble. The southern land, near Sidon, whereby our nightly rituals were performed was also sandwiched by the plummeting of bombs. This does not exclude the Bokja Atelier itself, as the building was attacked by shell fire, and the entire neighbourhood severely bombed. . . . There is a special place in hell for the Assad regime. More than 13 million people were forced to flee Syria due to the war. Up to one million were killed or disappeared. We dont know what will will happen now, but may all those sunken, suffocated, butchered - finally rest in peace. May those forced into the pains of exile come back home. This video for Mashrou' Leila, directed by @n0elpaul and shot by me, is a love story between a Syrian man and a Lebanese woman. The last relic of innocence before Lebanon collapsed. Wjaq (Stove) was shot in 2018 when we had money in the banks, the illusion of electricity, water, and gas- when the matriarch elders still held strong to their lives- when places like Bzebdine could be documented as untarnished emblems of resonant non-duality.
