really excited to announce a program I have been working on the past few months, @darebin_arts fuse festival. kicking off with a community-focused event: ganbu gulin: burndap, neto! (meaning one mob: deadly, now! in woiwurrung language) on september 5. welcome to country from uncle bill nicholson, the djirri djirri dancers, workshops with elijah money and aunty brenda fahey, as well as a music performances on the following slides. there is also a full first nations program as part of deadly darebin, check out the events on the darebin arts website. really chuffed to have the talented @bbyjwrld on the artwork design for this too 🫶🏽

the headliner for ganbu gulin is the formidable @moju_music - a prolific songwriter and seasoned live performer bringing squelchy, glitchy, neo-soul music to the stage. always evolving, and always creating.

ganbu gulin will also have a performance from @livandthedream who blend folk, rock and country, led by arrernte woman olivia meg. with their debut single ‘stay’ out, the six piece band will bring us all along for a journey dipping into each band members music abilities

finally, ganbu gulin will be mc’ed by @kimmielovegrove bringing her light-hearted warmth to the stage for the in betweens, acting as the glue and making folks laugh along the way.

on sunday 6 september, an artist who I have wanted to work with for a looooong time @cloverbluecowboy will be performing at reservoir library as part of our street sessions activations where we invite you to stumble upon lo-fi acoustic performances at community venues in darebin. clover is a first nations artist leaning on the poetics of hopeful melancholy with introspective lyricism and lively instrumentation

on tuesday 8 september, presented alongside @thornbury_picturehouse is a double feature of @ourwarriordoco and @motherhoodinthecolony bringing about the stories of resistance in the colony. pictured above is uncle robbie thorpe - with the documentary exploring his childhood and family, as well as the emergence of his radical politics in the formative years of the black power movement in so-called australia

🔸Introducing our food and beverage options for BACK 2 BLAK 🔸

♨️ Playte are a gastro-architect duo who use local food as a tool for collective healing. Their work is rooted in community—creating site-specific experiences that explore the intersection between art, architecture, and the politics of food. Founded by Niyanta Sharma, an artist and architectural designer with Indian heritage, and Wesley Hauler-Winterford, a nutritionist and cook with Māori heritage. Together, Playte explores the joy of gastronomy. ♨️

⚜️ Heaps Normal are an independent, Aussie owned and made purpose-driven non-alc beer company on a mission to redefine the way we play They reckon some things in life are too good to be wasted, like having a good time, a good chat and a good drink. They’re the weirdos redefining normal for the better and celebrating people who do the same. We also make drinks, but we don’t care how much or how little you’re drinking, unless it’s water (yuck). ⚜️

➰ Kines, as well as being our wonderful hosts for this event are also running the bar with some additional wine and beer options. Kines is more of a lounge room than a cafe, started in early 2016 from an old wholesale shoe store. They also are the home of Murmur Library – a decolonial community lending library dedicated to creating a space where diverse voices and narratives thrive beyond the constraints of the white gaze. Their curated collection celebrates the richness of Black, Indigenous, and culturally diverse perspectives, offering poetry, fiction, non-fiction, children’s literature, zines, and magazines. ➰

💌 Not long now until we all come together for a boogie. Waitlist is still open via Humanitix if you wanna put your hat in the ring 💌 taken in KINES by @randals.dad

💫 Introducing our line up for BACK 2 BLAK 💫

⚡️ SOVBLKPSSY is a Ngarrindjeri DJ, producer and radio host currently based on Gadigal and Wangal land. She has carved out her role in the broader queer community as a DJ who moves within both rhythm and resistance and has made a name for herself all across so called australia, as an artist deeply entrenched within the inner workings of the local clubs and communities. ⚡️

💥 SKNOW is the creative moniker of multi-disciplinary artist Sarah CVK. Her fluid musical style weaves electronic and acoustic fibres that echo the rhythms of the natural world, drawing inspiration from the surrounding environment and its myriad creatures. Heavily influenced by live jams that organically evolve, SKNOW layers sounds and vocals to create more grounded and soothing soundscapes that go against stereotypical dance-floor energy. 💥

🫯DJinda aka amby downs is the anti-colonial ambient/noise sound project of Yuwalaraay/Gamilaraay artist Tahlia Palmer. Exploring the textural, atmospheric, and emotive resonances of place, history and dis/connection through sound. Her work is characterised by heavy, immersive soundscapes that weave together subtle environmental recordings with sparse, processed instrumentation and harmonic drones. More than pure documentation, her compositions are meditations on ecology, memory, and the act of listening itself. 🫯

🌀Nicholas Currie is a practicing visual artist and curator working with painting, sculpture and performance. Currie is from the Mununjali clan of the Yugambeh language group, with connection to Kuku Yalanji, and currently lives on Wurundjeri Country in Naarm/Melbourne. Humour and kindness are undercurrents to the major themes addressed in his works: translating this into his sonic persona, mixing oil with water and setting like a fine wine 🌀

❣️ I am legitimately over the moon with the crew that have come together for this gig, I am in awe of how deadly blackfullas can be ❣️

🔻 RSVPs for this Wednesday are completely snapped up! Head to Humanitix to join the waitlist. 🔻 taken in KINES by @randals.dad
