🚨 KALIMANTAN NEEDS OUR SOLIDARITY.

Our home is burning, and the past week has been one of the worst.

Behind the smoke are communities struggling to breathe; and volunteer firefighters putting their lives on the line with limited equipment.

I’m currently supporting @ranuwelum.foundation ; a grassroot foundation that provides essential equipment, oxygen masks, and emergency life-support packages to these frontline volunteer firefighters.

Right now, we urgently need your help.

If you can donate, please donate.
If you can’t, please share this.

Your solidarity can help protect the people who are protecting our forests.

Kalimantan is burning. Please don’t look away.

.
Gilanya kami, memberanikan diri mengirim DM ke @kickandyshow, @matanajwa @najwashihab @mastercorbuzier & beberapa selebritis Hollywood yg peduli dg sustainability, namun tidak ada repsonse.
.
Desember 2019 aku bertemu salah satu sosok inspirasi ku pak @singgihskartono @spedagibamboobike di Jakarta dan sempat ngobrol singkat tentang @handepharuei. Kami berteman di IG sejak itu.
.
.
Terkhusus untuk keluarga ku dan tim Handep, yes we did it.

Truly an honor to be an honoree of @forbesindonesia 30 Under 30 Class 2022.

Never imagined to be on Forbes, and I just came across Forbes 3 years ago when I started my entrepreneurship journey. Not until last year, on a random midnight talk with one of my team @awkwardanii , I began to think if I should go for it. This wish list was then just gone after that night, because it felt impossible and too scary for me to imagine it.

Here is the thing, as an entrepreneur or someone from outside Jakarta & Java, we are too far from media exposure and our opportunities are often limited. I bet you would agree with me, doing business in an underdeveloped place like Central Kalimantan with limited infrastructure and networking opportunities is really challenging.

I used to have this mentality where I think and worried too much to try something and always look at my limitations.

But once again, our team at @handephareui has proven that nothing is impossible, especially in today’s digital age. We can break down so many walls and opened up doors of opportunities. Yasssss guys, we did it, congratulations everyone @yoantaway @awkwardanii @angelamayrina @k.ncil @asbernadeth @rinda_suzania 🎉

Another key lessson is to never compare ourselves with others and feel less worthy about it. A big NO NO. Always believe in ourselves and have positive attitude. As a sociopreneur, we often feel lonely and face unique challenges. No, you are not alone, we are here with you, we actually are the agents who make this world a better place. Social entrepreneurship has slowly gone mainstream, there will be more of us across the country and globe. Let’s celebrate social entrepreneurship and amplify our movements.

This awards is for my team, for hundreds of our artisans in the village, and for our customers and supporters, who believe in HANDEP’s values.

I hope this award also inspires other young Indonesians especially in the villages that nothing is impossible. To make this world a better place and we can be successful without Jakarta dream.

🇹🇼 Tracing back my Austronesian root through rattan weaving

I’ll share more soon about my key takeaways from the Rattan Renaissance; the international dialogue on rattan with fellow rattan champions from across Asia, representing Kalimantan. For now, just posting my face first… in case anyone’s wondering how I’m doing or missing me 😆 taken in Ocean View by @randijmiranda

BISNIS TIDAK HIDUP DI RUANG HAMPA

Bisnis mengambil air.
Menggunakan energi.
Memanfaatkan tanah.
Menghasilkan limbah.

Profit seharusnya punya jalan pulang.

On 3 October, HANDEP will be presenting at the Rattan Renaissance, International Rattan Dialogues in Taitung, Taiwan, together with practitioners from across Asia, organized by @okaf_crafts .

Our Founder & CEO, Randi Julian Miranda, will share a perspective shaped by our work in Kalimantan, where rattan sits at the intersection of Indigenous Dayak knowledge, forest stewardship, craft, contemporary design and market system.

For us, rattan is more than a material. It carries generations of Indigenous knowledge and technical skill, while opening possibilities for more regenerative ways of designing and making and livelihood. We will highlight our lessons learned and challenges in building ethical value chain for rattan, one of the most fragmented global commodity.

The conversation goes beyond craft itself. It is also about strengthening an Indigenous-led, forest-based economy, one where forests can remain standing, knowledge continues to be carried forward, and craftsmanship creates lasting cultural and economic value.

From Kalimantan to Taitung, we look forward to learning, sharing, and exchanging perspectives on the future of rattan across the region.
