One last post about our Labor Day trip to Wydaho.
Floating a river, jamming some tunes, hiking some trails, visiting a national park and a holiday, seeing the Satus, hitting up Hot Springs, going to the Kasino Club in Stanley, and seeing so many friends, and also their kids and pets!

Six nights with three different friend groups
Only two nights car camping with frost on the tent both nights
Three different hot springs that were all super different
Many national forests
Many mountain ranges

My favorite place to be! by @randilynnq

Scenes from hiking up Table Mountain at the edge of Grand Teton National Park.

I had been up there once back when I was 25. Nothing had changed since the. One of the best views of the backside of the Tetons possible. I can’t believe I used to live here. Amazingly beautiful place. taken in Table Mountain (Wyoming) by @randilynnq

Greetings during this cold winter season!

A bit of a long biographical post here:

Five years ago, I happened to see an article about the @adkwinterschool on the front cover of the ADK magazine. I was instantly fascinated. I had a background already in winter camping, cross country and backcountry skiing, and loved backpacking. I attended the program in 2022 as a day hike student, where we tried to summit Algonquin and had to turn around above tree-line due to extremely high winds. I was hooked.

I was thus super excited to hear that my name had been put forth as a potential instructor. I have always wanted to get more into outdoor education and leadership. They invited me to attend the following year to be a Day Hike instructor. I definitely had impostor syndrome, with not a ton of winter experience in the ADKs, though a lot of general cold weather experience. So, I came and helped co-lead a group of students up Phelps Mountain and loved every minute of it.

Suddenly I found myself being a part of the most amazing community of people who love winter and also love educating others on how to travel and camp safely in these cold environments. I was able to start exploring the High Peaks and beyond with some members of this group outside of the school itself. I instantly had a new crew of about 25 new friends to do cool shit with. I soon joined the Advisory Committee as the secretary and gave back more time to this wonderful organization.

The philosophy of WMS is simple: we learn best by doing. Students are leaders in the program and get to make decisions while the instructors are there to course correct when needed. It’s much different than being guided. It’s all about building the capacity of the school participants to go out safely on their own adventures. This is also my goal here with Crescent Moon Outdoors.

This year WMS sadly did not have a program due to some administrative changes. Instead we had a 3-day retreat to become a new Board of Directors, and I am still the secretary. 😊 by @randilynnq

Scenes from New Years fun times in ADKs with Winter School friends and other new friends.

Trying some Ice climbing on New Years Day (they all know what they’re doing, I don’t!)
X-country skiing shenanigans on trails at Heart Lake
A beautiful hike up Street and Nye- 100000x better than hiking these trails in summer (frozen creek crossing success!)

So much gear to do all the things! Headed back up again soon for more snowy and cold adventures!

SoCal-Southern AZ road trip. So many saguaros. Some organ pipe cactus. Then some Joshua trees. Several beautiful hikes and campsites. The desert has so much life in it. Also saw Salvation Mountain in Slab City.

Also a visit to @_robin.maria (my vife) and saw @steve_blackass get hitched. by @randilynnq

Scenes from 2 solo ADK adventures with my best girl Luna.
Two day paddle trip to end of Little Tupper Lake in July.
Two night backpacking trip to Pharaoh Lakes Wilderness, including a hike up Pharaoh Mountain in late September to see the colors.
I love spending time with my sweet girl! And reading in a hammock overlooking a lake (the lean-to had one for me to borrow!)
