This is a replica of one of Augusta Savage’s most celebrated works called The Harp. It was exhibited at The World’s Fair of 1939 in New York then destroyed shortly after. She also mentored many well known artists whose work has been shown in museums for decades. Why don’t we know more about her life and contributions to the art world? We will explore this Saturday with educator Carol Belle Thomas Moss.

This is a FREE event. Documentary will begin by 2:30pm. Seating is limited.

5/30 at RBA Creative, 2 to 5pm

How do you measure the value of a human life? What about a community?

Back in the 60s and 70s, Interstate 980 displaced thousands of people and divided a thriving Black neighborhood. Now, Caltrans is considering removing or capping part of the freeway–but if we’re going to break the cycle of development and displacement, we have to understand the original harm.

Caltrans and partners (including WOEIP and Randolph’s consulting firm @rbacreative ) just released their first report on potentially removing the freeway. But their study didn’t go far enough to calculate the true cost of the freeway–so the nonprofit @evoakcreativity started its own parallel, community-driven process.

EVOAK! is tracking health impacts, environmental damage, and the generational costs borne by displaced families. They spent two years interviewing dozens of legacy residents and people displaced by I-980’s construction. Now they’re combining research and oral histories to calculate the compounding and cumulative harm.
