The Ashton Theater opened in 1927 as a single-screen cinema in Hollygrove, built by pioneering Black Creole architect Ferdinand L. Rousseve and run by the Fonseca family. It closed in 1958 and went on to house the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra’s rehearsals and later sculptor Lin Emery’s studio. Today, the landmark is being redeveloped to house EntrepreNOLA, a co-working hub for creative entrepreneurs. taken in Hollygrove by @randomsearch.co

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears. Very late notice, but yours truly graduated last summer with a masters in Historic Preservation, and these are a few slides from the thesis defense. The study employs archival research, GIS mapping, and field observations to illustrate the transformation of Miami Beach’s Architectural District under neoliberal urbanism. It was bestowed the Distinguished Thesis Award for documenting the most prevalent mechanisms behind this transformation and for grounding established scholarship in urban sociology and human geography. Grateful to have had the best committee I could ask for: Alex López, Edson Cabalfin, and Fallon Samuels Aidoo.

PS/ Naturally, this reel had to feature the Miami Vice soundtrack, the unofficial track of the project. taken in Miami Beach Art Deco District by @randomsearch.co
