Welcome back everyone. I guess this is just an appreciation post for all of the good and interesting things that have been happening in my life recently, but highlighting two of those in particular. The live video is from my first ever sitar recital, which I did about a week and a half ago. It was truly mind blowing and humbling experience getting to play with and talk to some of the most disciplined and soulful musicians I think I’ll ever meet, and I’m deeply grateful to my teacher @indrajitsitar for letting me perform. The next video (I had to split it in half so it would fit on Instagram) is of a VERY brief alap simply included to properly show the full range of technique that goes into the sitar, specifically the bends (or meend) which are the true soul and voice of the instrument. In both videos I am playing Raag Bhimpalasi, one of my very favorites which is meant to convey the feeling of watching the shadows lengthen as the sun wanes in the summer afternoon. Interspersed are various pictures from my two week trip to Colorado which coincided with the recital. They speak for themselves. With so much going on in the world right now that requires passionate attention, it is nonetheless necessary sometimes to take a step back and remember to love our friends and family, do the things that make us feel whole inside, and to remember that this experience of life is transient, and that trying to exist in anything other than the present is futile. I love you guys. by @rangisweetman4

This is my project guitar that I’ve been working on getting completed for over a year and a half, and although the journey has been extremely convoluted and frankly stupid, I’m happy to say it’s finally finished. This is the same body and neck as the Jimmie Vaughan signature strat you can see in my posts from three years ago, but everything else is totally different: unique dark purple nitrocellulose finish, all new wiring, pots, capacitors, and more stable output jack, new bridge saddles that won’t cut into your hand like vintage strat saddles do, shielding paint in the wiring cavity that effectively kills 60 cycle hum, and of course a whole new pickup arrangement. The new pickups are two Fralin single coils in the neck and middle and a Lollar P90 in the bridge, with the P90 being wired to a push-pull tone pot that allows it to go in and out of phase with the middle pickup; they also all clean up under distortion really well. It’s also overall extremely comfortable to play due to how it light it is and how easy-playing the neck is. I’m really happy with how it turned out and I’m looking forward to tinkering with it more to try to get it absolutely perfect. All sound samples straight from my 1964 Bassman.
(Also I know some of you have already seen this but I wanted to wait for the two straight weeks of overcast we just had to end so I could get some good pictures of it lol) by @rangisweetman4
