JUST A GUT FEELING by Rani

Yesterday I got to present the video I've been working on in the @createherco__ cohort since last week. Thank you to everyone that was able to come and watch and to those that supported from afar. For this project We were given the time limit of 1 min to 1:30 min to tell our story.

I chose to use that time to highlight the coziness and joy that I get from being in the kitchen with my grandma and family. I really want to use my voice and art to dispel the negative stigmas that people have about Haiti and our culture. There's a richness to our culture and I want to share that every chance I get. So please enjoy. by @ranij.comedy

I just want to take a second to say thank you.

To this day, whenever my parents and I reflect on my high school experience we always said that Mr. Rocca was one of the very few teachers that really saw me. I was never really the most confident back then but Rocca always gave me words of encouragement and it felt like he really believed me. He believed that I could improve and that I needed to stop doubting myself. Whether that be at in Congressional Debate or in my AP Govt. class. I won't forget the days of waking up early on a cold Saturday and rushing to hop on a bus with you to go wherever. I won't forget the times I would visit you in class during your lunch just to talk about whatever random thing I saw in the news. I won't forget the fact that you always pushed me to be persistent even when I felt discouraged or felt like I wasn't good enough.

I carry a lot of the lessons you taught me with me to this day. I'll still quote some your analogies whenever I'm talking politics with my friends now. I'll reminisce on the funny moments we had with other Speech and Debate friends I still have today. Anytime I touch a mic and speak I remember a lot of advice you gave me
I really owe the person that I've become today to you. You are the one of kind teacher and friend I've always heard people older than me talk about.

It hurts so much to be writing this about you.
But I'll never forget you.
We'll never forget you.

Thank you,
And we love you

Rest in power Mr. Rocca ❤️ by @ranij.comedy

THE SANDBOX JUNE RECAP:
🌴🌺🌊CARIBBEAN HERITAGE MONTH🌊🌺🌴

I can't even express how much joy I had in my heart seeing everybody come out and celebrate the rich culture of the islands together. This has been something I've been wanting to do for YEARS because of my own feelings of home sickness, overflow of pride for my island ,and just an overall wish that the Caribbean community in the Carolinas got more of a shout out. When I was growing up I would always envy how much diverse Caribbean rep there was in places like New York and Florida and would beg that our communities would get more highlight here. So, I would hope one day someone else would feel how I feel and make it happen.

It was really one of those situations of going from "Man, I wish someone could make this happen." to "How can I make this happen?". And I'm so so so glad it actually HAPPENED. To see people of all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds get down to konpa, dancehall, soca, salsa, reggaeton, bouyon, etc. is something I'm still reminiscing on and carrying with me. So, thank you, thank you, thank you so much for the support with Sandbox guys. Coincidentally, around the same time of us holding this Caribbean themed session we hit a WHOLE YEAR of playing in the Sandbox. ISN'T THAT INSANE??

Bruh, a whole year flew by and I'm finding myself setting up floors and getting a chance to jam and play games with y'all in ways I couldn't even imagine. A whole year and I have an amazing team of people helping me bring a vision to life every month( Shout-out to The Sandcastle!!: @mya.piyaa @thommy_thee_stallion @lyneevee/@eebspresso @jiyante__ /@jdidproductions ). And again, thank YOU 🫵🏽 for supporting whether you've been sharing flyers, suggesting songs/games, dancing or just giving words of encouragement. Sandbox wouldn't have hit a year if it wasn't for y'all and we're gonna work hard for the rest of this year and upcoming year to show y'all our appreciation (just keep an eye out 😉)

Til then, n'ap wè ankò 🇭🇹🫶🏽 taken in Camp North End by @ranij.comedy
