Happy happy birthday, @dulceacm . I can’t wait spend the day with you and spontaneously sing Happy Birthday at the least expected times. You’re my favorite. by @rantalksdogs

Band practice! We couldn’t do our regular walk yesterday, and the cats couldn’t spend as much time in the yard as we would like, so we whipped out our instruments and did a little band practice! (Band practice, as always, inspired by @_user_sam_ and Lil 😍) by @rantalksdogs

The folks over at @thepetstable reached out to see if I would like to try their frozen food and share with my followers! Beacon has loved other frozen foods in the past, so I thought we would give it a try, and they sent me a box of frozen meals in exchange for my posting a reel and some stories about it. They didn’t say I had to say nice things, but honestly Beacon is a huge fan!

The Pets Table food has been a huge hit. Beacon is thrilled to eat it, and unlike the other brands we have tried in the past, she doesn’t leave anything behind (with one of those, I kept finding black lentils scattered around. She was VERY committed to avoiding them.).

If you’d like to try The Pets Table, too, you can get 50% off your first box and 20% off the second with code RANTALKSDOGS. You can also go to mght.co/RANTALKSDOGS. by @rantalksdogs

Just a regular workday with a cat who insists he NEEDS to be in the yard.

@dulceacm and I spent this weekend at @happycompromisefarm , a farm & sanctuary where we are Patreons. They used to be on the west coast but moved to NY state and are now a (short? Long? Doable!) drive away. We drove out on Saturday, stopping at a random coffee shop in Albany that turns out to be in the gay neighborhood - a delightful surprise. We heard instruments and followed the music to find a Juneteenth parade! All in all, a fantastic stop on our way to a dream worthy weekend. We camped on the farm and got to meet “our” chicken, Lucille, and we also got to snuggle the rooster Cherimoya, who was very happy to be held and even sat on Eryn’s lap during lunch. We helped with a few things around the farm and we already can’t wait to go back. by @rantalksdogs

Voluntary Sharing is one of the exercises designed by Leslie McDevitt in her Control Unleashed program. This process uses a “start button behavior” for one participant to initiate the following sequence: a treat is given to the other participant (here, a cat!) followed by a treat for the initiator. In this case, Beacon the dog is either “nodding” (in the first clip) or doing a chin rest (the second and third clips) to start the sequence.

Once the basic sequence is fluent, we can use multiple bowls to add a little bit of movement! Here you can see that the black cat is moving back and forth between the two bowls, while the dog remains in place and continues to initiate each sequence. Over time, bowls could be moved to different distances and heights to help a dog practice remaining in place while a cat moves around.

Please note that this is not a recommended procedure for everyone; as you know, we never recommend one size fits all training! If you think this could be a good fit for you, we recommend working with a Certified Control Unleashed Instructor (CCUI) and using a variety of management systems for everyone’s safety and comfort. by @rantalksdogs

I’ve been having so much fun with cat training! We are working on some skills for backing up. Here’s our second session! Our first one was yesterday just reinforcing hind feet landing on the target. by @rantalksdogs

Happy Gotcha Day to Ms. Beacon Hopper, aka Butt Butt. We adopted her because she checked the boxes, not because she stole my heart… but thats cause we were playing the long game, and I love her more every day. We are some lucky ones.

Here are some pictures of our first meetings with her at the shelter, and our first days at home. Happy Day, big dog. by @rantalksdogs
