This project reimagines the contemporary middle school in New York as a reflection of adolescence itself, framing the transition between supervision and independence through architecture. Influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach, the school treats the environment as a “third teacher,” using natural light, biophilia, and sensory experience to shape learning. At the center of the building is a conservatory that acts as an interior piazza for gathering, exploration, and community.

THE BRAKE AND BAROQUE

Final Review Model || Fall 2025

This study begins with two distinct forms: a threshold and a bicycle brake, each documented and analyzed for its proportions and structure. This object reimagines their relationship: layering, folding, and hybridizing elements to create a new architectural entity.

The design exists as a threshold between the ornamental and the mechanical.
