To celebrate John Coltrane’s centennial, I wanted to share our take on “Naïma,” a piece we brought to Africa two years ago for a very special project with eight traditional sabar drummers from Senegal.

Here’s the end of the arrangement: @thomasenhco takes a wild solo before passing it on to sabar master @khadim.niang.437 , who cues the group and leads us back into the melody, beautifully played by @yosvanyterry . All with @francoismoutinnyc holding it all down on bass.
Such a special moment to revisit…:)

✨ An unforgettable night, last Sunday at La Roque d'Anthéron. I was lucky enough to close the 46th edition of @festivaldepiano_laroque, with three concerts on this legendary stage, from 19:30 to 01:00 AM!
1 🔵 Bach Mirror - duo with @vassilenaserafimova
2 🟢 Mozart Paradox - solo recital
3 🔴 Fireflies - trio with @francoismoutinnyc (bass) and @raphael_pannier (drums) and a string orchestra made of @quatuormagenta, @cyprienbrod, @clement_pimenta, @lilyachifman, @alecfukuda, @florestanraes

I had never done such a thing, to play three completely different programs and styles in a row, and I must say that I'm still flying from it (and exhausted too!), one week later. But most of all, I'm extremely grateful for the dedication, talent, and wonderful human vibes of my closest friends and musicians (including the great @bribolet at the sound), and for the incredible audience of nearly 2000 people who stayed until the end of this marathon with us, under the stars in this truly magical place.

A huge thank you to you all, on stage and in the audience, and to the team of the festival (organisation, piano technicians, technical team, drivers, and volunteers) who made this crazy thing possible. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. ❤️

🎥 [𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝗻 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲́𝗼] 𝗕𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗼𝗻 "𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗿"

Au rebours de ses précédents albums, @baptistetrotignon a choisi de s’imposer un cadre gouverné par un seul objectif, redouté par beaucoup d’artistes : aller vers la simplicité. Ainsi retrouve-t-on une frugalité, un « esprit Erik Satie » qui permet d’aérer l’édifice... À la tête d’un trio parfaitement raccord avec ses idées, Jérôme Regard à la basse et Raphaēl Pannier à la batterie, Baptiste Trotignon a donc conçu un répertoire aux mélodies claires, composées chacune dans un espace-temps d’une heure, adossées à un tempo assez lent, dont seul le travail de finition sonore a justifié du temps. Le résultat connaît une avant-première à Marciac avant la sortie de l’album cet automne. Mais d’ores et déjà, on sent le souci mélodique, la cambrure pop / rock anoblie par l’exigence et les éléments improvisés relevant du jazz. « Art Is Simple » atteste le désir de l’artiste de communiquer le plus directement possible avec le public, à l’écart des contingences. Et, ce n’est pas la moindre des surprises, cette approche volontariste, ce magistère exercé envers soi-même, produisent une expérience qui s’approche de la musique pure, au sens où elle est désencombrée, sans fard, susceptible d’atteindre chez nous l’esprit et le coeur.
