Outward Gaze, Inward Gaze

@nicosawatzki creates atmospheric visual worlds that straddle the realms of landscape, memory, and abstraction. Multi-layered coats of paint allow his works to hover between light and shadow, proximity and distance.

In “Reflections,” @raphael_paulun turns his gaze inward: His self-portraits combine personal memories with philosophical questions and quiet moments of reflection.

Both exhibitions are currently on view at the @e30gallery. Works by @christopherkieling are also on display there.

Raphael Paulun consistently uses his own image in his work; he is present in all of his pieces and uses the self-portrait as a starting point for his artistic exploration.

The motifs arise from personal memories and inner processes of reflection. He repeatedly combines these with philosophical questions and art-historical references, subtly weaving them into the pictorial structure.
