Happy birthday Mama by @raphaelcreations

Today my mom turns 90.

Living with dementia has taught me that it isn’t just forgetting. It’s watching someone you love transform into versions of themselves that never existed before. New fears. New confusion. New heartbreak. And all the while, you’re desperately searching for the pieces of the person you’ve known your entire life.

The hardest part is that every day starts over again. She doesn’t remember that I was there yesterday, earlier that day, or sometimes even ten minutes ago. People ask me why I visit so often if she won’t remember.

The answer is simple: I don’t go for the memory. I go for the moment.

This morning I arrived with Sage and a bouquet of flowers for her 90th birthday, only to discover she had left for a doctor’s appointment minutes earlier. After a frantic search, I found her outside the clinic, crying and convinced she had lost her money.

I held her hand. I reassured her. Slowly, the tears stopped.

Then the smile came back.

I told her she was 90.

“Ninety?” she said. “No way.”

And for a little while, she wasn’t scared. She was happy.

Long enough for a hug.
Long enough for a kiss.
Long enough for this picture.

Happy 90th Birthday, Mom.

I love you. ❤️ by @raphaelcreations

We’re dealing with so much so this is a huge win. She kept telling everyone “I’m cancer free!” This was a really long cancer road. Just praying for more healing. taken in Los Angeles, California by @raphaelcreations

I’m trying to convince myself that creativity is a fluid and ever-changing force. Sometimes it may feel like it has disappeared, but it is merely taking a temporary break. Trust that your creativity will return in its own time. Explore new experiences, engage in self-care, and seek inspiration from different sources. Remember, creativity is a journey, and its absence is just a pitstop before new and exciting ideas emerge. Easier said than done taken in Burbank, California by @raphaelcreations
