Graphics for «Pigments of Wisdom» performance by VASR during Art Basel 2025. White blankets woven with the lettering ‚Counting Sheep‘ covered the performer and MÄNTIG at the synthesiser which accompanied the ritual with an improvised live score. Photographed by Johann Bigler, the poster captures the wooden V-shaped bed with an exposed wool mattress at its centre. Vladislav Alexander Stasevich Rüegger moved across it, shifting between restlessness and rest. The sound shifted from barely audible hums to rhythmic pulses, reflecting the body’s failed attempts to settle. Hosted at the former Thommy factory, the audience sat on tiered seating looking down at the stage and bed. Designed in close collaboration with VASR in 2025. taken in Basel, Switzerland by @raphaeljeromeschmitt.work

A few words on working for Ye. The work was shaped through a process unlike anything I had experienced before. I worked in absolute reduction. Design was treated as language. Type, space, proportion and color were minimized to their essentials. One typography with one size, no punctuation at all. Through their texture, printed versions were preferred as they held an emotion digital mockups cannot replicate. Nothing was left to chance yet nothing was overdesigned.

The feedback process reflected the same clarity. It was open and respectful, allowing creativity to flourish without compromise. At YEEZY ideas were judged on whether they fit at the given moment. If something worked, it worked, if not, it was put aside. It is a method to get the purest result. That sense of trust and efficiency felt rare. In past collaborations I had seen artists insist on negotiating the idea until the work lost its strength. Ultimately, an idea just is what it is. It is not good or bad. The key is to share and review ideas without assigning value.

Working for Ye, whom I regard as one of the greatest artists, was a transformative experience that reshaped how I approach design. by @raphaeljeromeschmitt.work

Location consulting and visual research with Sean Vegezzi for Jil Sander. «Wanderlust» is the debut campaign under the creative direction of Simone Bellotti. Identifying diverse urban environments in Hamburg that embody the city’s maritime heritage, social history and architectural character was the focus of the work. Infrastructures like waterfront zones, public interiors and architectural remnants were explored for their textural qualities, lighting and atmospheric presence. In line with Jil Sander’s values and history, this supported the campaign’s visual narrative. The research covered spatial and logistical factors, as well as public art and monuments. Aligning with director and artist Sean Vegezzi’s approach, the visual research examined underground systems, including tunnels and waterfront features, such as docks, piers and shipwrecks. As part of the campaign, Bochum Welt created original electronic compositions to underscore the city’s shifting tonalities and complement the visual themes. Among the collaborators were art director Christopher Simmonds, stylist Charlotte Collet, casting director Ben Grimes and music supervisor Ruggero Pietromarchi. Premiered in Hamburg, the film and accompanying vinyl EP were distributed through select Jil Sander stores internationally. Monogram patterns designed for the I Never Read Art Book Fair at Studio Martina Perrin. Held during Art Basel, they were applied to the wrapping paper each publisher used to package their books. All printed elements, including invitation cards, flyers, posters and envelopes, were typeset at a uniform size across every medium to create a cohesive visual language. The name of the fair comes from Andy Warhol’s quote, «I never read, I just look at pictures.» It reflects the fair’s focus on exploring the book as an object of knowledge beyond traditional reading.
