Who’s ready to be transported to another place and time? Meet @raphiquebarakat. A special treat when he comes out to @ghostlightbar for open mics. He is an ElectricOud player who is an unbelievable musician. Raphique plays multiple instruments and uses his knowledge of different disciplines to piece together music, loop it, and simultaneously play the Oud as he’s taking us on a roller coaster ride with his music and creating something new each time he’s on stage. If I close my eyes while I listen I can imagine exploring the streets of Morocco, or dancing all night at some club in Ibiza. I wonder what this would look like performed on stage with a light show and maybe a local rap artist collabing with him and these amazing beats (hint hint 😉). @onebrizzl or @doc3131_tunes

“Before I had the words to articulate feelings, there was music… I didn’t know how much it was benefitting my mental health because I didn’t have the vocabulary at the time.”

@dsmsounds instructor @raphiquebarakat talked to us about the impact both the guitar and oud had on his mental health, and how music empowers us to approach the world with empathy and grace.

The Write Start: An Artistic Expo & Youth Creative Experience

Featuring @raphiquebarakat
Who will be teaching a small Arabic musical workshop. That teaches about the different instruments as well as how to play them and giving us a small musical show you don’t want to miss! This Sunday August 23rd- stop by Raphique’s Section for more information.

What To Expect:
• A Clean Open Mic for children only to express themselves. Rather they’re spoken word artist, singers, rappers or musicians The Hot Spot has a safe space for them!
• A Robotics Station ran by @ashlivinginflow where the youth will get a chance to build robots and learn more about the process of them and the parts involved
• Wine & Write’s Writers Table will be set up with art supplies for on the spot inspiration
• Science Station where children will get the chance to not only make a Lava Lamp but take it home as well!
• Free Hair Cuts by @motorcity.mt (Donations Accepted)
• Youth Modeling Sign up for young girls
• Vendors Vendors Vendors!
•Face Painting by @siiababy who will also be doing modeling classes sign ups for young woman in training x @johnnie.wtf who will also be doing a construction show and tell for young men in training
•As well as a school give away that’s deeper than book bags and school supplies. We are providing clothes, shoes, winter coats, purses, hair products, and so much more! To set our youth up for success going into not just the school year but the Nu Year & beyond!!
