It’s 490BC, my name is Pheiddippes and I’m a messenger in the Athenian army. Xeres and The Persians are invading Marathon as we speak.

On Saturday 28/9 @ 0700, the General is sending me to Sparta to King Leonidas to ask for soldiers to defend Athens if we can’t hold the Persians at marathon. I have to arrive my Sunday night or else I have failed the mission.

I only have my trusty Altra running shoes and 75 checkpoints with olives, feta and soulvaki and every other modern snack I could need.

The route is paved now but is still 246km with a 4,000’ mountain to climb at 161km. To arrive at King Leonidas by 1900 hours on Sunday, I will kiss his big toe and deliver the message and be done with my mission. 💪🫡

Caballo Blanco 80Km - ☑️

¡No mames! THE Caballo Blanco Ultra Marathon has been a bucket list race for me since reading “Born To Run” back in 2012, while I have been down to the Barrancas Del Cobre for another race in the Fall of 2021, this is the race I’ve wanted to do. Michael and Kimberly Miller have been the race stewards for several years now (@huglonger took fotos 1 & 2) - the first foto was immediately after crossing the finish line (9hr 48min)

The Miller’s did an incredible job getting a large gringo crew down and helping handle some logistics of the event. Fotos 3 - 6 are some stills I took and the last two videos were for funsies taken by mi amigo El Edder. I had the pleasure to run with Ricardo (@rki84) for most of the 2nd half of the event and it was great.

The day was super hot but I held on because of the excellent aid stations complete with Pinole, oranges, bean gorditas and water! @ultra.caballo.blanco #caballoblanco #urique #coppercanyons by @rar_tx

Bandera 100k - Jan 8th

This is one of my favorite races. It’s Texas through and through… It’s rugged, tough, prickly and rocky. It was sold out when I realized I’d be in the area so I put it on the back burner, fast forward to race week..
A friend said they were running and when asked if they needed a pacer at half way, he replies I’m over 60, I can have a pacer at the start of the race. Joe says which loop do you want, obviously loop 1 so I can get back to Austin to party! Well, I get a call from my over 60 friend, “how about promising to finish last and you can get in the race pro bono.” Whoa, so I was going to get into a sold out race and all I have to do is finish last. Is that a dare? Maybe just a duty, part of the deal. Done. I’m in!

I was honored the job of sweeping the last 31 mile loop. So I basically was provided the job of pacer! It was my duty to get the last runners in before cutoff. I was born for this role and I didn’t know what was going to happen. Seriously, first timer to be purposefully the last finisher. What a challenge! I love it.

I was able to support a few runners and feel that this was very important to have happened, very glad to have been able to ensure their safety.

My favorite was V, her 1st big ultra race. I had the pleasure to run with her the last 25ish and she never gave up or slowed down. Bravo! by @rar_tx

That’s a wrap 2022.
Let’s go 2023, it’s gonna be a rager, one for the ages 🤘 by @rar_tx

One Way. ➡️ Forward.
While there are many paths to take, forward is the only way. There isn’t time to look back, second guessing decisions, deviations and detours that were taken to bring you to this moment. Right now, this moment is a culmination of xx amount of time living your truths, the knowledge and experiences gathered over time are the sum of your understanding of the world, universes and other.

Goodbye Summer 2022!

This photo from the beginning of summer makes me laugh. At the WI cabin and on a lawn mower ride with Croix and Claire. Super fun day! Sad to see summer go, but I’m tired and ready to use autumn to prepare for winter where I can recover from a long and busy spring and summer.
