Rare Bird Books and Evil Ink are proud to unveil the new cover for Year of the Black Rainbow, the long out-of-print foundational novel of The Amory Wars, written by Claudio Sanchez with Peter David.

Featuring stunning new artwork by acclaimed illustrator Fadli Rabbani, this definitive edition returns readers to the beginning of the epic saga that inspired Coheed and Cambria’s expansive science-fiction mythology. Unavailable for more than fifteen years, Year of the Black Rainbow chronicles the events that set the fate of Heaven’s Fence in motion—and forever changed the universe of The Amory Wars.

Serving as both the origin story of the Amory Wars saga and a prelude to The Second Stage Turbine Blade, the novel explores a universe on the brink of collapse. Long before the rise of the Keywork’s greatest heroes and villains, the foundations of Heaven’s Fence are tested by political ambition, religious conflict, and forces determined to reshape creation itself.

This new edition is now at the printer, with signature pages scheduled to be sent to Claudio for signing in the coming days. Once completed, signed editions and preorder bundles are expected to begin shipping in late July.

We also want to thank the thousands of fans who have already preordered. Demand has been exceptionally strong, and inventory for signed bundles continues to become more limited. While a small number remain available, we expect signed preorder availability to close once the remaining allocation has been exhausted.

Whether you’re returning to Heaven’s Fence or discovering The Amory Wars for the first time, Year of the Black Rainbow remains the essential starting point—an ambitious blend of science fiction, mythic tragedy, political intrigue, and cosmic horror from one of modern music’s most imaginative storytellers.
