There’s a first time for everything! ✨ Last Sunday, I had the privilege of speaking at a panel alongside some of SD’s greatest at Mixed Asian Day. We talked about authenticity, our identities, and how all of that culminates in the food we bring to the table.

Such a joy to be able to share my story and learn from others doing incredible things that showcase their true selves! Thank you @heyannastrong @magnaye.sd @its_breadandbutter @matcha.y.miel and of course, @mixedasianmedia and @goldenguideorg for putting together such an amazing day 🫶🏽🫶🏽

Balik kampung (back to the “village”) - Singapuraaaaa 🇸🇬

Local Indian Muslim food 🤤 Roti Prata, Mee Goreng Pattaya, Rojak

Warung (store) by the beach 🛖

Followed by Warung in an Ibu’s (aunty’s) house 🫶🏽 Sate Lilit all day, everyday!

I love you, California, but the best sunsets are in Bali 🌊

Behind the Table, pt. 09.

My first time back home 🇸🇬 since starting RASA gave me a whole new appreciation for the food I grew up with ✨

Being able to walk a few hundred meters to a hawker center and choose from so many different dishes barely scratches the surface of what makes Singapore’s food culture so special. I never really stopped to think about the layers of ingredients, history, and stories behind each dish until now.

So glad I got to eat my way through Singapore and explore it from a whole different lens. My heart (and tummy) sure is bursting 🫶🏽

No à la carte menu. No rushing through dinner. No sitting at your own little table.

Just one menu, one table, good food, good music, and a room full of people sharing the same experience.

Can we collectively agree we should stop calling pandan “Asian vanilla”?

It’s so much more complex and deserves a lot more credit. It’s versatile, it’s brighter, it is what it is.
