It is such an incredible honor to be a parent. I very rarely post on my socials, so when I do, it’s because something has really hit me in the heart. This week, I have the privilege of watching Xander play in his last high school football game—and on the biggest stage possible: the State Championship. At the same time, I watched his little sister Lily, take the field for her first week of flag football.

Seeing those two moments side by side moved me more than I expected.

I coached Xander from 2013 all the way until he entered high school in 2021. Now here I am again, stepping back into the world of coaching as Lily begins her own journey. It’s surreal—and such a privilege—to watch Xander apply 12 years of football knowledge and experience in one final game, while at the same time watching my daughter take her very first steps into the sport.

And somewhere in the middle of all this, I’ve grown into a 50-year-old man who still thinks he’s 20… until I’m standing next to Tate and Xander. That’s when the illusion disappears in an instant. Tate and Xander could smoke me in every physical category, and even my “wise dad” mental edge is shrinking as they gain real-world experience and wisdom of their own.

It’s humbling (and hilarious) to ask them for help with an app, especially when it feels like just a few years ago I was the tech-savvy one. And even the vernacular is challenging to understand “6 7”—no matter how many times my brilliant daughter explains it, I still can’t wrap my head around it. Ha!

I am an extremely proud father of three amazing kids. And I just wanted to put this out into the universe: how proud I am of them, how amazed I am by them every single day, and how deep my love runs for each of them.

Tate keep Jumping through everyone’s expectations, Xander do not stop using all your gifts to your advantage, Lily as much as I plead for you not to pass me up like your brothers - go ahead and blow past everyone and smash all of life’s challenges by @rasm0244

Funny… Not Funny… exactly a week after going to the ER for a cut above Xander’s eye… this time we are at the set for Lily. She fell getting out of the shower, cut her chin and knocked a permanent tooth loose. by @rasm0244

One thing that you learn when you move from MN to FL… New Years is a bigger celebration than Independence Day. More fireworks, more people shooting off fireworks, & that party started at dusk 7pm and keeps going until 1am. by @rasm0244
