I made another Bedroom painting earlier this year:

Stages of Rest, 2026
130 x 160 cm
Oil on linen

Works by:

A K Dolven  | Anna Bjerger  | Emily Gernild  | Ivan Andersen  | John Kørner  | Rasmus Nilausen  |  Tal R  | Mike Silva

The Bedroom
For our presentation at CHART, the artists explore the bedroom and the bed as both physical and emotional landscapes: spaces of intimacy, vulnerability, desire, loss and transformation.
The exhibition is inspired, among other things, by Karl Ove Knausgård’s latest book, I Was Long Dead, and his reflections on sleep and dreams as a state where we surrender control and enter another, more instinctive reality. Here, images, emotions and memories emerge without explanation.
The bedroom becomes not only a subject, but a state of being. It’s a space where, in letting go, we become most visible.

We went to see the Sanya Kantarovsky - @skantily - show at Instituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti some weeks ago.
On the day of our visit, unfortunately there was no electricity in the building due to some incident. This made the whole experience quite churchy, which wasn’t too bad, and somehow funny if you are into gallow’s humor. To me, it made a reference to the title of the exhibition: Basic Failure. Some of the larger pieces were quite impossible to experience how they were meant to, but it made it more intense, which I found to be in sync with the general spirit of the works. The surfaces are just really good.
Sometimes you have to deal with what is in front of you, acceptance, pentimento and resistenza. 👀

__

The paintings of @rasmusnilausen, created specifically for the exhibition ‘Uñas’, propose surreal spaces where ambiguity takes hold of the scenes. Recurring elements in his visual vocabulary such as nails, fingers or fringes cooperate and coexist within compositions of improbable balance, as in ‘Fusion’ (Slides 5-6).

This ambiguity is intensified in ‘Still Life with Nails and Fringe’ (Slides 1-3) through the visual play the artist constructs around the double meaning of the English word nails, which denotes both “a thin hard layer covering the outer tip of the fingers” and “a small thin pointed piece of metal with a flat head, used for joining pieces of wood together or hanging things on a wall,” revealing, at an etymological level, its entanglement with the body, construction, and industry. In the scene, a nail pierces a fingernail that extends disproportionately across a table, bringing body and tool together within a single image. The nail thus emerges as an element positioned between the somatic and the logic of construction.

A couple of months back I was invited to the university of Cuenca to do a talk, and I had the pleasure of a quick visit to
the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art. In company of @joseaja66
I have for a long time been fascinated by the work of José Guerrero, the repetition of
shapes that could arguably look like matches, but also like fingers within different kinds of systems and relations.

This piece, I painted for the show at The Ryder Projects is a sort of humble homage to his work and how ideas tend to grow regardless of what else you might be doing.
The nails form part of a complex system of action. We usually call it the hand. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Connections and coordination are imperative and almost automatic. This made me think about building bridges. The beauty of these moments when two become one. I am thinking about interaction; about what happens when you converse with another person. How do thoughts, even if
they are invisible, grow together when people discussbnew ideas and points of view?
One can never be certain if the other person is seeing or feeling things in a similar way, but when this kind of fusion happens it usually brings along a strong feeling of gratitude.
The nail is a strange part of the body, in the sense that it is sensitive but also built to be hard and resistant. I find it to be useful, protective and kind of high maintenance compared to other parts of me.
In my case, the nail is also a constant reminder of time past.
Another week.
Already.

I wrote this small entry about the piece:

‘A homonymous word is one which can mean different unrelated things, while a polysemous one will share multiple, yet related meanings. Misunderstandings and different possible interpretations are one of the key elements in my practice. Just like people, things and words can be ambiguous and shapeshifting in their meaning. The understanding of painting revolves around the notion of language as something in constant evolution. What one sees and deduces from what is before the gaze will always be dependent on multiple factors beyond simple delivery and reception. This still life is a bit atypical in the sense that it is not clear if the table in the foreground is situated in a closed or open space. It could easily be both, but it is indeed a painterly space, which might take us to the realm of inner life rather than somewhere in the tangible realm. Still, everything about this painting seems quite robust and heavy, but not necessarily permanently fixed. Both hair and the nails might keep growing while other stuff is happening. Slowly but surely.
The scene appears to be paused momentarily, like holding your breath figuring out how to answer a difficult question.’

Video og foto: Story Lab @story.lab.agency sponsoreret af: @kunstpaaarbejde taken in Kunst På Arbejde by @rasmusnilausen

NYHED: Nyt samarbejde styrker unge kunstnere 🦋

For kunstnerne. For arbejdspladserne.
