Jenny Jia Li van Ratingen is a Sydney based artist working across painting and sculpture to examine domestic life, inherited familial dynamics, and the emotional labour embedded within everyday rituals. Jenny graduated from the University of Sydney, with a Bachelor of Visual Arts and Advanced Studies in Art History (Honours), and was a finalist in the 2025 Fauvette Loreiro Scholarship Finalist Exhibition, Sydney College of the Arts Gallery.

In this series, the horse is used as both omen and commodity, blending prosperity with contemporary spectacle. Drawing on Hong Kong’s Happy Valley Racecourse, blurred horses are paired with carved wooden objects inscribed with racing details, exploring tensions between myth and control. Marking 2026, the works reflect on cultural symbolism and the hidden costs of pursuing fortune.
