Raúl Castillo (@raulcastillo)as Làzaro in @mercedelizondo ’s forthcoming film, And Then Everything Turned Itself Inside Out. A few weeks ago, I had the distinct privilege of joining the crew of And Then Everything to document the making of the film. I wanted to find a way to treat the process with the respect I felt it deserved; a way to make the scenes behind the camera reflective of the care that was poured into the scenes in front of it, a way to honor the wonderful architecture of Dallas City Hall. So, ever the glutton for punishment, and wanting whatever I made to fit seamlessly within my larger body of work, I decided to shoot everything on large format film. More on that soon.As for these portraits of Raúl, @brianamelia and I had about fifteen minutes after lunch before he was invited back to set to make a few portraits to be used on posters for the film’s release. Briana was the lead on that, and I am ever grateful to her for allowing me to tag along. A real smash and grab operation where speed is key – so, exactly the opposite of what my setup is good for. Still, it was an exciting opportunity to see how I would work under pressure. Many thanks to Raúl for being so gracious with his time.
