Hi! I’m Rahel (RA-hel with the German throat R - but please just call be Rachel before you cough up a hairball…) I’m so honored to be the guest host at @dearphotographer_ig this week! I hope you are inspired, encouraged, and you find community among other photographers! A few things about me: 1. I am married to the love of my life and we have three kids together, all of which serve as my perfect little models. I haven’t had to resort to bribery just yet, but I feel like it’s coming soon. 2. I was super surprised and nervous the first time someone offered to pay me to take photos of their grandchildren. I had just been taking event photos at church and I guess this kind person liked it, haha. (They did not turn out that great, IMO - maybe I can find them and show you later this week.) 3. If it was up to me, I could start a million projects and never finish. I don’t know why, maybe it’s my attention span… Deadlines motivate me, ha! Believe me, I planned this DP week ahead of time, because I’d just forget about it or be extra stressed this week! 4. Speaking of short attention span - I love working with kids. I’ve worked in kids ministry since I was a teen, got to continue for the past 17 years, and still get to serve right next to my amazing husband, the hardest working, most creative and caring family pastor. 5. I prefer a home-brewed cup of Gevalia and milk to a Starbucks coffee, mainly because I’m stingy (how much ice can they cram into a cup and still charge $6?!), but also because drinking from my own mug definitely tops the paper/plastic ones at a store. 6. I’d much rather answer 100 texts than take one phone call. I either stumble over my words, someone shouts “mommy, mommy” in the background or someone is getting hurt THAT MINUTE. I’ve kinda been MIA lately, I know. And it’s supposed to be “busy season”, right? I’ve been taking photos here and there, all school and staff photos for our school and church, so now I’m ready for a few family session. I’ve actually enjoyed being with my own family on the weekends, which hasn’t happened much during fall in the past years. 😅 I’m grateful for those who have been reaching out for family photos and while it’s still super hot, I’m excited to get started with fall photos and getting to spend some time with all these wonderful people. Let’s go, Fort Lauderdale! Now here’s a family who values time together. Why else would you fly out on vacation, all together, every year? I’m so thankful I was able to take their photos during their time in Florida this year. Proof that scary clouds don’t need to ruin your pictures. 😳 Meet Avery - Class of 2027 Whether you’re local or from out of town, sometimes your session lands on a day with a rainy forecast. Sometimes a session can be postponed, sometimes it can’t. For this family, is redo wasn’t possible. BUT: wouldn’t you know, after lots of prayer and going for it anyway, the rain didn’t come until the last minute of this senior session. Thanks to Avery and her family for going for it!!! Extended Family Sessions are close to my heart! They don’t matter quite as much now than they will in a few years. I guess that’s true for family photos in general... This wonderful family came from all over to meet for their photos at the beach. A gift for their momma. 🥹 It was HOT, but they were great the entire time.
