As regular dancers in spaces without the usual social lubricant of booze and substances we often forget how edgy the idea of it can be to first time dancers. Talking to someone recently who said ‘I’d love to come but am worried I’d feel really self conscious’ we thought it might be really valuable to share how it might feel. We try and hold a really open space where anything goes and dancers can break free of over active self awareness and tap into regulated nervous system safety. The old maxim ‘dance like no one is watching’ whilst clearly being in a space with others! So we thought we’d open it up to those who have danced at Rave OM to share how it is and what the vibe is like? We are stoked to welcome @djstefmo to come and craft his first Ecstatic Dance journey.
An excellent dj on the festival circuit at some of the most loved festival activations at Shambala and Wilderness and Neuro-inclusive @disconeurotico he brings a love of music and wealth of knowledge to our dance floor.

DJ Stef Mo is a genre-fluid party DJ based in Bristol. Currently resident with the Club House and Shambolympics, and previously resident with neuro-inclusive events company Disco Neurotico, Stef specialises in high-energy sets incorporating lots of different styles, edits and unexpected mashups, all delivered with a big grin and sometimes a red top hat.

“I’m so delighted to have been invited to play at Rave Om Ecstatic Dance. Because of the type of gigs I generally do － festivals, weddings and the like － I’m often in a space where I’m focusing on keeping the energy right up with endless bangers. And that’s a lot of fun! But it doesn’t leave much room for nuance, for letting tunes breathe, for maybe bringing the energy down at certain points, or throwing in interesting curveballs. So I’m really looking forward to digging deep, bringing out some music I rarely play but that means a lot to me, and constructing a narrative that takes the dancefloor on more of a journey. Though there will still be plenty of energy!”

We did it great to get Anahata down finally and what an epic night! Amazing music and a full room of body’s moving and flowing and a cheeky nearly full moon and some last of the outdoor bare feet dregs to be had!
Really appreciated each and every one of you who made the effort.

If you intend to come please book early to allow us to continue to keep the scene alive and make it worthwhile for events not just financially but also energetically too. Have you ever thought by booking early you aren’t just ensuring your own experience but also the continuation of something you value for those who put on the event and for others with similar taste? The events industry is being hammered. Whilst money is super tight for everyone, the booking rhythm of people has changed and promoters are cancelling events due to apparently low ticket sales and then last minute bookers are disappointed the event isn’t going ahead when they were gonna come all along. It’s a negative spiral for our scene. If money is a barrier as ever reach out or grab a low income one early before they sell out. We’re ok for now, but we’re the lucky ones and the more events there are on the better it is for everyone. Lecture over! At Rave Om we don’t just pride ourselves on having excellent selectors as resident DJs but also in hosting the best talent in the Uk ecstatic dance scene.

This month we as we return to where it all started for the mansion sessions, we welcome DJ Anahata! Not only a resident DJ at EDUK in London also an in demand ecstatic dance journeyman all over the Uk and Europe. We are delighted to finally welcome him to the county.

Friday night out done properly. Community. Connection. Movement. Immersion. Expression. Cornwalls biggest ecstatic dance returns for vol 2!

The first of our Sept events reunites us all after summer adventures to come back together and unite in dance. Our season kicks off with resident Dj Bobby Lost in the epic warehouse space followed by @anahatagrant108 on 24th Sept in the mansion.

New season launching with The Warehouse sessions volume 2!

We are back with the big one, big dance floor, big sound, big love! The warehouse sessions are an experiment in how we can combine ecstatic dance community in large spaces and huge sounds without all the nonsense of usual friday night culture.

A pure ecstatic dance experience in a carpeted warehouse setting where you can take your expressions on a proper journey through music and the space with no distractions and no visual interruption outside the context. You dancers and the music become the sole/soul focus going deeper In dance and feeling.

This is Cornwalls biggest ecstatic dance putting the county on the map and on a scale with some of the UKs most well supported and established ED events. We are very proud to be able to step out of the village hall vibe and into the epic, the scale, the arena that conscious dance deserves.

32 degrees. Someone else’s festival. A bar already open before we’d even started.

Not exactly the conditions you’d design an ecstatic dance session around.

Trainers stayed on. Opening circle had attendees sipping cold beer. People chatted mid-song, took photos, wandered in off the heat. On paper, every “rule” broken before we’d even hit our stride.

But I watched a dad and his daughter cracking up at nothing in particular. I watched someone who’d clearly never done this before, hovering at the edge, then slowly letting their shoulders drop. I watched a room full of strangers, half-cut and sun-baked, just... moving. However they needed to.

Ecstatic dance was never meant to be a religion. It doesn’t need purity or the perfect setup to work. It needs a room where nobody’s watching closely enough to judge you for getting it “wrong.”

That’s the whole point. Sober or not, barefoot or not, silent or not the freedom is in the body, not the rulebook. Even in scorching heat, with a bar wide open, that freedom still found its way in.

We do love the guidelines and we do follow them at our dances but somehow this experience taught us more than if everyone had followed all the rules! It taught us to dance with the tune that was playing rather than trying to silence it.
