For the majority of the last 12 years I have lived far from home. Being far away comes with the sacrifice of not always being present for important events with my family. My favorite thing in the world is flying in for a surprise visit. It’s a joy that never gets old. Recently my dear Nana has been very sick. I chose to come home for one of my surprise visits, knowing it would mostly likely be the last one with my Nana. By the time my flight arrived, I didn’t get to her house until around midnight. She just so happened to be awake. I came in and gave her a hug and told her I was here to hang out for the week but I would let her get some rest and we would catch up in the morning. She sternly told me “NO, I want to visit”. So, we visited. We laughed. We got in trouble with her as usual. We spent the week together. We laughed, cried, laughed some more, & ultimately cried some more. Nana passed and this time I was there, home, and fortunately by her side. My Nana was a very special lady. She would tell it like it is. She swore. She was sometimes inappropriate. She liked a nice drink and occasionally might even hit my joint. She loved Boston sports. She loved to cook & bake. She loved the city life. She loved family and always wanted us to be together. She was sensitive. She had a voice that you could never forget. Nana loved Jesus. If there is a heaven, I know she’s there. Today I said bye to Nana. & Goodbyes are always hard when you live far away, but it’s always just for a little while. So even though you’re far away now, it’s only goodbye for a little while. Love you, Nana. 💚 by @ravesi1
