There comes a moment in every immigrant’s journey when the new world and the old one stop feeling like opposites, they begin to blend into something whole.

But this doesn’t happen overnight. It takes months, sometimes years, to truly call a place home. It’s a slow unraveling, a quiet shift, until one day, you realize your heart belongs to both places.

For me, that moment came after nearly two years of rebuilding myself in a country that often felt too fast, too overwhelming for someone like me; someone who had always thrived in a slower rhythm.

But now, I finally feel my Janmabhoomi (land of birth) and my Karmabhoomi (land of action), as my husband calls it, coexisting.

The festivals that once meant home now carry a new meaning, under a different skyline, surrounded by different people. And yet, the emotions remain the same.

Moving to a new country isn’t just about adapting, it’s about carrying your roots while letting new experiences shape you. It’s about embracing the void of what you left behind, because only when there is space, can something new fill it.

And perhaps the most beautiful part? Realizing that some of the deepest friendships of your next life will be born here. The friendships, the traditions, the sense of belonging- they don’t replace what was, but they make room for what will be.

So here’s a gentle reminder for you: if you ever feel like you don’t belong-give it time. Let the unfamiliar become familiar. Let the empty spaces welcome new faces. Because no matter where we go, we bring our colors with us. And those colors? They don’t fade. They mix with new experiences, new people, and new memories. Eventually, they create something even more beautiful- a place that is uniquely yours.

And if you ever need someone to talk to about the raw emotions of moving countries, feeling lost, or finding home again - my DMs are always open. 💙

Still sitting with a lot of what the evening brought up for me about grief, memory, service, and what we choose to build from what life leaves behind.

I never imagined my first benefit gala in New York would bring me this close to a chapter of American history I had first heard about from thousands of miles away.

Twenty-five years after 9/11, I got to witness what one family has chosen to build from everything that day left behind and somehow, seeing that impact up close made the history feel far more human than I had ever understood it before.

Some evenings follow you home and keep asking you to think. This one did!

Thank you @ngsfoundation for such a meaningful evening and for letting so many of us witness the legacy you continue to build.

And thank you, @kanikachaddagupta, for being such a champion of community.

I didn’t expect to cry in front of strangers.
