Bass love hiding in pipes and culverts during the summer as it offer much cooler water needed to keep them big bass comfortable. Knowing this, I often pitch from afar and slowly creep up to work these structure using finesse tactics, such as a Neko rig using BFS gears. It always works!

I used to always use a monofilament backing when setting up a reel…but I never liked the space it took on the spool or the extra steps involved.

On YouTube I was watching @rawrfishing setup a BFS reel without a backing and I knew I had to test it out. After setting up 4 reels this way and fishing them all year I don’t think I can go back. No slippage. No effect on casting distance. No drag issues. Try it for yourself!
