The difference between fear and courage might be one thought:
I live under the smile of heaven.

The two spies saw the same giants as the ten spies—but they held to a different belief. They knew the Lord delights in us, and that changed everything.
Drop a 🔥 if you need this reminder today.
When you believe God is for you, you write differently, lead differently, and live differently. You stop shrinking. You start trusting.
That kind of courage is available to you too.
What would change if you lived like that today?

My wonderful mother, Pearl (Daphne) Badham, passed away on Monday 6th July.
Loving wife of 61 years, mother to 5 of us, grandmother to 10, and great-grandmother of 4. We are all so sad to see her go, but we know she is no longer in pain. She is with Jesus and reunited with many dear friends who have gone before her.
One of my strongest memories of Mum is the warmth, strength and comfort of her embrace.
Mum’s arms were strong. She had “guns” without ever needing a gym! Those arms carried each one of us through our childhood—sometimes even two at a time when it came to my twin sisters, Esther and Ruth. Even in her final hours, as we gathered around her bed, she reached out, held our hands, and squeezed them tightly.
Mum’s arms were caring. Whenever we came home with scraped knees, broken hearts or bruised egos, she welcomed us into those arms without hesitation.
Mum’s arms were safe.
We grew up as missionary kids in Papua New Guinea.
Mum once wrote about walking home with my brother Noel and I when a masked “dukduk” man suddenly rushed at us with a spear. She wrote,
“We got such a fright to see this grass covered person covered in long strands of grass from shoulder to feet and with a white clay mask on his head. Noel jumped onto my shoulder and held onto me tightly. The spear whizzed past our faces. Villagers came running reprimanding the fellow. They were telling him not to frighten the white people.”

Looking back, I think Mum was so strong, caring and fearless because she herself was held by stronger arms. Arms that carried the weight of our sin to Calvary. Arms stretched wide on a cross in love. Arms that conquered death so that we could have life.
Three years ago, before a risky operation, we asked Mum if she was willing to go ahead, not knowing if she would survive. I’ll never forget: She quietly replied, “It’s okay. I know where I’m going.”
This past Monday, in her final hours, she would sometimes cry out as though she was falling. But I know she was falling into those everlasting arms she had trusted all her life.
We will miss you terribly, Mum. But one day we will be gathered along with you into the loving arms of Jesus! ❤️

Some encouragement for songwriters: There are specifics about your relationship with God, and when you express that in song, it will meaningfully engage people.

*Correction: Not Komanabad, but Kombanad 🤣
Even though I’m half Keralite (my better half is Maliyali) I’m still 99% rookie.

Isn’t it interesting that art often surfaces truth that we wouldn’t have uncovered any other way?

Eg the alliteration of “Fill me with the fear of the Lord” is such a beautiful dichotomy -allowing the truth to get into our heart.
