Today makes one year of marriage with my @danvinos 💙

I will always look back so fondly at all the memories of over 20 of our favorite people traveling together to Vegas celebrate our love!!! How amazing is life?! We’re so lucky and every day I’m reminded of this when I wake up next to Danny.

This mural that I painted for the Berwyn Public Library will forever be one of my most treasured pieces I’ve completed in my career. Let me tell you why 🩷

What is now their Adult Computer Lab once used to be the Children’s Room that I would play in as a little girl so often with my mama growing up in Berwyn. When we used to live and visit family in Little Village, we would often go to the branch on Blue Island and 18th in Pilsen. As we adjusted to our new life in Berwyn, we went to the library to feel a sense of familiarity and for the love of literacy.

In college, I returned to this library after signing up for Spanish classes and wanted to teach myself how to read in Spanish again. It was then when I saw a job posting to work there and they took a chance with me. It was my first office job and I loved it so much! (In another lifetime, I’m a librarian!)

They quickly saw my curiousity in marketing and design and nurtured it by giving me the chance to design logos, craft social media posts, and more. Without them, I wouldn’t have the resources to learn the softwares for graphic design and content creation I use every day, today.

Within the walls of @berwynlibraryil … an octagon shape of a building, it has given me the tools to what I needed during that point in my life- without ever asking anything in return. A similar storyline as my favorite childhood book, The Giving Tree.

Within this and every library is full of AMAZING librarians full of so much knowledge, creativity, courage, and passion to make their communities better.

I’m so happy that my old coworker recommended me when they were going through the beautification process of this space. Painting this piece has made me shed a few tears to see how beautiful life is when it comes in a full circle. I grew up to be the artist I always dreamed of being.

A little collage for my very first art show as an adult!! (This was back in November of 2023) It was a full circle moment for it to be in beloved Pilsen.

This piece is a papel picado of an altar. Almost each square has an item that represents the beautiful people who have left this world, but still here in a different way. From a little cafecito to doves- they’re never too far away. 🩷

Pilsen will always have a special place in my heart! This is where much of my childhood memories are from learning la cultura and bonding with my papa over vibrant street art that sparked my interest in art so young. This was actually where I was taught art techniques briefly from an elder Latina artist who lived here all her life. She further solidified the love for the area and the importance of me having ownership in my own craft and abilities.

Things have been coming in waves lately, so I wanted to bring it back to this special moment and the people who lovingly shared it with me.

Moments like these aren’t as sweet unless you get to share them with those who helped you get there. Thank you always. 🩷 taken in Pilsen, Chicago by @rayitasbb
