I sat down with the president of Disney channel and said “I wanna make history” and that’s what this is

ON AN ACTUAL REAL, half marathon done hello??? 0 hours of sleep hello????? 1 month of training hello???? Never ran before hello????? guys I literally sent a msg last month so I could withdraw my place because I was so mentally out of it but then Amal and Ahmed were literally like, you still got time to train????? Then I was like hold up let me stop being dramatic
No but for real like the fact that last year I was sat having such a rubbish year and this year i managed to push myself and run a Half marathon surrounded by all my amazing friends? I want to engrave this wknd into my head quite literally forever. I LOVE EVERYONE. I LOVE HOW MUCH YOU GUYS SUPPORTED ME, IM SO ETERNALLY GRATEFUL
THANK YOU AHMED FOR PACING ME (I deffo wldve stopped 3k in if he wasn’t there)

The National Military Museum, Cairo Citadel, Egypt

One of the reasons I adore film so much is because of the feel that digital fails to replicate. Digital may be able to copy the look of film photography, but never the feel.

These two pictures in particular remins me so much of my Grandfather’s pictures that he used to take in the 80’s. And maybe it could be argued that it’s not the film that gives it this “80’s look” but rather the actual location, but I truly doubt that my iPhone would be able to replicate such an image.

I haven’t been as in love with photography recently, which I didn’t think would ever really happen, but after going through the pictures I took in Egypt, more specifically these two, I was reminded of why I used to love it so much.

I remembered how much joy I get from being able to preserve such a beautiful type of physical media, and being able to remember and honour my grandfather, Allah Yerhamo, through them. I missed the intentionality of my shots and being able to look back post development and remember the exact moment of when I took a photo.

What I cherish so much about the art of photography is the way it able to tell so many stories and make you feel so much just from a singular image.

What that feeling and story may be, is unique to each individual, yet no matter what, it is always there. taken in Egypt by @rayuuski

Bayt al 3iris

Day turns into night and night turns into day
Yet the conversations carry over like time stands still

I feel like a kid all over again, begging to stay up for five more minutes to listen to one more story

Toubs and jalabiya’s fill the room
Getting ready for shay wa fatoor

All the khalto’s, 3amo’s, cousins gathered around the living room,
Even my broken Arabic stands a chance

Scurrying for my camera to capture the same moments that I longed for as I flipped through my grandfather’s photo album

Family I’m meeting for the first time, yet I feel like I’ve known them for a lifetime

These are the days my mother described as her childhood, the fundamentals of her life
Now becoming apart of my life

reliving their old days, inheriting similar memories

Feeling segregated by the label of the diaspora kid, but soon realising it holds no weight, realising I can be two things at once

How can I feel homesick for a place I’ve never lived in
Bittersweet laughter as we anticipate the fond farewells

But they say home is where the heart is
And right now my heart is in masr by @rayuuski
