I am incredibly proud of my girls. I had a vision for this piece, “Lady” by D’Angelo, and they brought it to life in such a phenomenal way. I couldn’t have done this without them!

Thank you to each and every person who contributed and added your personal touches. This is OUR piece from beginning to end- something we created together - I will always make sure that everyone who brought their magic to it is seen and honored. THANK YOU! 🙏🏾

The Northwest Tap Connection in Seattle is a distinctive urban dance studio specializing in Rhythm Tap. The studio’s philosophy is that dance enriches the lives of the students, while developing self-discipline, instilling self-confidence, and encouraging achievement and goal setting. 💙💚🦅👞🏈

Melba Ayco is the founder and Artistic Director of NTC. Cipher Goings (@ciphergoings), Pamela Yasutake (@pamelayasutake), Shaina Proctor (@shainaarielle85), Rachel McKinney (@rayychooo), Marvine Faty (@marv_ineeee), and Paige Hall (@jp.hall) are the tap instructors.

At NTC, rhythm tap is the dance form at their heart. At the same time, they regularly incorporate a variety of dance styles such as African, jazz, modern, ballet, swing, ballroom, and hip-hop into their curriculum and performances.

NTC is dedicated to building the whole dancer through a love of dance, personal discipline, respect for the community, respect for fellow dancers, and knowledge of the history of the art form. We provide an environment where dancers can grow artistically and technically, and at the same time can develop leadership skills and social responsibility.

Their intermediate and advanced students are encouraged to participate in an annual tap festival to broaden awareness of tap, improve skills, build self-esteem, and connect with the larger dance community. Recent travel has included Chicago, Denver, Minneapolis, New Orleans, New York, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C.

Some of their senior students have danced with tap legends such as the late Gregory Hines, the late Nicholas Brothers, the late Buster Brown, Savion Glover, the late Jeni LeGon and the late Jimmy Slyde. Their repertoire includes choreography by nationally acclaimed artists such as Dianne Walker, Lane Alexander, and Chester Whitmore.

Representing the Seattle Seahawks and their 12th Man is Rachel McKinney of Seattle!

Rachel is a dancer, choreographer, teaching artist, and the Community Engagement Coordinator for the @stgpresents.

She started performing when she was 3, but began taking tap dance seriously when she was 6 years old with the @northwesttapconnection (20+ years of tap dancing, folks!).

Rachel’s relationship with STG began when she participated in their DANCE This program in 2010 and we are so lucky to have her contributing to all of their ECE programs today. But her favorite role? Connecting with and teaching the next generation of dancers and artists! 💙💚🦅👞🏈
