Is it too late for summer reading? Well, break some rules, then. Everyone loves an antihero and Raffles was the flip side of Sherlock Holmes. E W Hornung (who was Arthur Conan Doyle’s brother-in-law) wrote four collections of stories of the gentleman thief’s adventures. Edwardian tales of perfect crimes committed for the joy of refined larceny... these are first editions of course, but paperback editions abound as they haven’t gone out of print since The Amateur Cracksman stole his first diamond in 1899. by @rchristopheraustin

It’s not all million dollar lots and caviar. Sometimes it’s all about grim determination, especially when the going gets competitive.

This unknown young man by an anonymous 19th century photographer looks like he has a sale on deadline and perfectly captures today’s mood.

So, things are opening up and we are all trying to responsibly enjoy the summer, but remember it’s always a safe option to stay in and binge some mystery series. Perhaps one with an eccentric, brilliant detective who solves crimes with the help of a conservative sidekick. Any shows like that?
Well, we are going back to the source in our July sale and offering the original manuscript for a Sherlock Holmes story, “The Mystery of the Greek Interpreter.” Doyle introduces Sherlock’s smarter, but less driven brother, Mycroft in this tale and Mycroft has had his own fans ever since. by @rchristopheraustin
