Big Tannic Northern 🐊I found this fish sitting in a 6ft weed bed but his presence almost went undetected. All night the pattern for the boat was hammer handles and dinky bass in the shallow weeds. Knowing I had twenty minutes left of a moon major with about thirty minutes of daylight left. I had saved the biggest weed bed on this small lake for last.We fished the whole spot very thoroughly from the outside edges in through whole flat. I was throwing a musky crank but I figured, surely, this juicy 6ft weedbed would be a dink Northern fest like the rest of the weeds we had been fishing this night. To my surprise, not a single bite. That told me a big predator had to be sitting in the spot causing these smaller fish to stay put down in thick stuff, which had not been the case all night. I knew I needed to slow things down and give the whole spot another good pass through so I swapped baits to a 2 piece Musky fly/hairjig from @mash.kustoms . Sure enough this fish was waiting for a big hairy slow presentation. About 3 casts later she smoked it on the drop and I thought I was into a decent Musky. It wasn’t until the fish was at the net that I realized it was my PB Northern Pike! She measured out to 37” with a big ole head and a body to match it! Northwoods Bruiser 🦍Decided to try for Walleye on a new lake before doing some Musky fishing and first 30 minutes we had 2 in the well and released this big girl. Kinchou Fooled the Big Girl 🐝 #muskymonday One of my goals for the season was to catch my first crank bait Musky. This fish came up out of 8 feet rocks and absolutely T Boned the 5.5” “Kinchou Minnow” from underneath never even knew she was close haha The bait is a larger version of one of my all time favorite Walleye Jerkbaits when I found it last fall I was very excited to put it in front of some Skis. Gold Prospector 👷🏼‍♂️⛏️Some beautiful Walters from the Northwoods. I haven’t been out fishing since late June. New native species on the list for me 🖤In celebration of Americas 250th birthday heres some fish that have been here wayyy longer than we have! 🦅🇺🇸🎆Very classic stuff fishing worm on bottom using a 3way rig. After fishing with big live bait and heavy jigs for 2 days prior, it was very relaxing to set out some crawlers and see what comes by. I was not expecting to catch 2 new species this trip but it only took about 20 minutes haha. S/o to my brother @dinkhunter_fishing for always welcoming me to come down to his local and beat up The Big Sippi with him! Down and Dirty 👹 Took a trip down to Iowa for some flathead catfish action and brought home a good haul of eaters with @skunk_less We caught alot of flatheads, the jig bite was slow so we resorted to live bait. All the bigger fish this trip came on Live Bullhead or Live Green Sunfish. The weather was awesome and wading kept us nice and cool, luckily the bugs weren’t bad at all! We kept 8 fish between 3-6lbs and let go some 8-15lbers as well. Spring Side Mission: Coho Salmon Catch and Cook ✅I was lucky enough to get Invited out for some Lake Michigan Coho Salmon by my buddy Jesse! We battled some big swells and whitecaps due to strong winds out of the North East but we got the job done. Spent about 4 hours trying different lines pulling dodger rigs with big salmon flys. We went 1-2 on bites so no skunk for us. It was cool learning how to catch em out in the big pond and all the rigging that is done to consistently catch fish. We were the only boat to launch out of McKinley this particular morning as most people probably were scared off by the wind and the forecasted rain haha. When we got back to the launch the Creel survey guy was looking pretty bored and was very excited to collect data on this fish. 😂 He told us he had been to all the harbors and shore spots from Racine to McKinley Marina without seeing a fish caught. She went 22” 3lbs and tasted delicious, grilled with butter, fresh lemon slices, salt, pepper and a touch of paprika. Harvesting 🍽️Took me a solid day to figure out the pattern and it was definitely jerkbaits on ever body of water I fished. I also managed a few on a hairjig out in some deeper water. In the mix was my first ever tagged walleye pictured above! My 2nd ever tagged walleye came about 20 minutes after. Stay tuned for more info on those tagged fish. They both were under 15” but still very cool! Nothing giant landed but excellent quality eaters and truly some gorgeous walleyes! Northwoods Smallies Firing 🏈💥Jerkbaits and hairjigs were the ticket! Most of the Smallies came mid day on hair up on shoreline rocks except the beautifully marked and biggest one, she ate a little after sunset and absolutely crushed the 4ft diving floating jerkbait.The @mash.kustoms hairjig tipped with a XL Leech was putting the smackdown to em 😂🔥This day was very cold for early May and it even snowed while I was out on the water for a bit. Big Takedowns & Bigger Hooksets 🐶🎣I spent last weekend down on the Mississippi River in Iowa. Needless to say the big bowfin were hungry! The first hour was slow, then it picked up and was automatic after that. We had consistent bites and even a double up. They wanted anything dead it seemed.
