Exciting things are happening! 🔥
Our new Neon Shop is well on it's way to completion thanks to these awesome Ribbon Burner Blowers from Sean at @re_searchlab . Ribbon burners require a steady source of air to soften glass tubes, and these blowers are a great self-contained way to provide enough pressure for a blazing hot, wide open ribbon of flame.

Sean's easy-to-use blowers run whisper quiet, most of the noise in this video is from the ribbon burner itself or our fresh air intake fans!

The Research Lab Auto-Spark Ignition System for Ribbon burners is a success!

Made so you can easily ignite the burner flame, and extinguish it when not using, which is not only useful for easy lighting, but especially helpful in the summer when studios get hot and you want to limit how much heat is added and gas wasted by a ribbon burner thats constantly on.

I will be making these on special order only, so send me a DM if you are interested in having one built for your burner! They will be printed in the same grey filament that is used for the Ribbon Burner Blower, unless you would like to have a customized color, which can be done for both the Blower and the Auto-Spark for an extra fee.

Updated process on a little time lapse I made a little while back of the full building process. After the Iris is made, I remove the blower motor and attach the box that contains the electrical hardware and grounding. You can see I also block some holes off with 3d printed TPU plugs to stop any extra air from coming in the backside, allowing adjustment to a small flame with more stability, minimizing excess airflow. The rest is self explanatory, thanks for watching!! taken in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by @re_searchlab

This is the process for making the Iris Airflow Control Valve on the Ribbon Burner Blower setup. Took me a few months just to figure out how to accomplish this design, from making jigs, modifications, and designing the face that holds the fins in place better than the original design. This has by far been my favorite thing I’ve ever made, and also the most challenging. It takes me about an hour to make one, but i managed to condense the process down to just over 2 minutes for your viewing pleasure. Thanks to everyone who has supported so far!

For the last couple years, I’ve gone through quite a few designs trying to make a smooth gas delivery system for use with a standalone blower on a ribbon burner. This was an issue I was solving for myself in my personal studio at the time, because I did not care for running gas through the side of blower, a method I witnessed others using. I went to work and designed quite a few things that worked decent, and some others that did not work so well, ending up with a design that resembled a Venturi mixer with an aperture for controlling airflow with more precision, instead of using a guillotine which caused a lot of turbulence. Thanks to @livio11 for the Venturi suggestion and guidance on making equipment, and @buckygiles for testing out the designs and giving feedback and support. taken in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by @re_searchlab

The Research Lab Ribbon Burner Blower and Mixer have been in development for a couple of years, undergoing fine-tuning and adjustments to ensure overall satisfaction, ease of use, safety, and a compact, ergonomic design. Countless hours of design, rendering, and testing have culminated in a reliable and marketable product for the neon community.

This design solves several problems in one compact unit:

1. Reliable gas mixer: Our design inserts gas above the blower, eliminating the risks associated with running gas through electrical components.
2. All-in-one mobility: This setup is perfect for demonstrations, residencies, or neon studio settings.
3. Quieter operation: Compared to regenerative blowers or compressors, our setup is ideal for educational or demonstrative environments.

Pre-order now: $850 USD (stand and gas fittings not included). Free shipping for orders placed within the first two weeks. Pre-orders accepted throughout October, with shipping starting in late October. Message me to place your order or inquire about bulk orders. by @re_searchlab

You can see it can adjust down to a small flame setting and have a short range of heating, or it can be adjusted to a larger flame, with plenty more air flow at disposal if you need an even hotter flame at longer lengths.(see second video) It is super simple adjustment with everything taking less than a minute to demonstrate functionality. by @re_searchlab

::::Update::::
Pre-Order will go live on October 1st, stay tuned for pricing and how to order. (Feel free to message me now if you cant wait😊)Until then enjoy this fast paced video on the making the ribbon burner blower and mixer attachment.

Years of thought and design, over 12 hours in 3d printed parts, hours of assembly, custom made and modified parts, love, sweat, and tears went into the quality control to make this a reality. I’m very proud of this design and I hope to get this in the hands of those that need it, propelling the next generation of Neon forward!
