Our Wednesday scenario played out a ton of different ways today. Everyone arrived on scene with the exact same information. It did not end the same way for everyone.

Words mean things and information is important. It doesn’t matter if you’re law enforcement or military having the intel and using your situational awareness was is key.

On a side note, if you ever want to run from cops become a decoy and volunteer your time. It’s kinda fun.

Before you look for a special assignment or extra duties, master the fundamentals.

Be tactically sound, medically proficient, and professionally lethal in your job before chasing a title.

Don’t skip steps. Build the standard.

Training in limited visibility forces handler and K9 to rely on reps, muscle memory, and extra equipment. If you have NODs and don’t train with them you’ll be a liability when you need to use them.

So handlers go train in the dark and decoys get out there and catch some dogs at night.

Bad things always seem to happen when it’s dark.

I love doing scenarios it gets your handlers to think on their feet.
This one was an armed robbery suspect was seen in a rural area (judging by the gun and MO it was probably a guy that was a <$>)
The situation can evolve and change as we go.
Officer was able to get enough compliance for the suspect to drop the gun and then because of a door pop malfunction suspect tried to get away.

Integrating tech into the K9 world should be Something all Agencies look into. Drone and dog integration easy and effective.
Let me know if you have any questions. Little action with K9 Wilson beating me up. by @reaction_canine

Malis Mala Facere. Do evil to to evil or To do bad things to bad people

I strive to make dogs and handlers better; to ensure they are ready to complete their jobs. I don’t protect my knowledge I share it openly because that’s how I learned. I don’t believe there is only one way to train a dog or handler.

If you’re around Savannah ga and want to train let me know. by @reaction_canine

Environmentals are one of the most important things we can train.
Like the rest of my team I want my Dog to be able to work efficiently and effectively no matter what the conditions are.
So if you see a problem work through it, if you don’t know how find someone with the information.

Trying to work some equipment desensitization. Bitting a fake arm and ignoring the pants. Prosthetics are a great tool. A real arm is better but I’m not gona volunteer mine.

If the dog lets go when uncomfortable and transfers to find comfort in biting the pants they would get pulled back and put up.

And I know my acting could use some work.

Building confidence in dogs is just as hard as building it in handlers.

Gone are the days that you throw the new guy in a suit and you send him running down a field.

As a decoy it’s your job to make the dogs you’re working better.

In my opinion very handler should attend a decoy course and be proficient at it before they get a dog. There is a lot you can learn about K9 behavior when you are the one in its mouth.

I missed training with my group, day jobs exist, but when I’m there I’m training. Even if it’s 10000 degrees. by @reaction_canine

A high drive dog being Assaulter or officer neutral doesn’t happen over night, and it doesn’t happen without following a proper plan and a lot of work.

With that said not every dog that is on the street or in a military kennel is able to preform at the same level, it takes a good selection processes, socialization, team training, trust in the dog, handler and Assaulters to make it work.

The biggest mistakes I see is moving to fast, skipping steps, or trying to make a dog that isn’t about the team life into a team player.

Mastering a craft isn’t about knowing everything. It’s about never stopping the pursuit of better.

Refine your skills, stay adaptable, and remain aware that techniques, surroundings, and dangers are always changing.

Perfect the craft, but never stop perfecting your awareness.

Let’s talk about detection; explosives, narcs, or human it all comes down to being able to read your dog.

I see a lot of dudes especially patrol heavy handlers or guys that think they are too cool to have training days focused on detection.
It boils down to you dog uses detection to find odors that are important to them.
So when your badass patrol dog struggles on hidden decoys whether it’s behind doors or high in the area or even in the dark that’s you neglecting your detection training. by @reaction_canine
