GONE BEFORE GOODBYE | ⭐️⭐️⭐️

this is one of the most wild books we’ve ever read. is this a good book? no. does the plot make any sense? absolutely not. but were we entertained? 100% which is why we are recommending you read it. don’t go in expecting the standard of a harlan coben thriller - it’s not even close to that bar. but we enjoyed it solely for seeing where this bonkers book was going. just don’t try to make any of it make sense and enjoy the wild ride

📚READ MARRY KILL RATING
⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 for the entertainment

📚SYNOPSIS | Gone Before Goodbye by Reese Witherspoon and Harlan Coben
disgraced army combat surgeon Maggie McCabe, reeling from personal tragedy and the loss of her medical license, receives a highly paid (and highly sus) job to treat an anonymous client for the ultra elite. when her patient vanishes under her care, Maggie is thrust into a deadly international conspiracy that connects to her late husband.

📚WHY WE RECCO READING THIS (even though it’s insane)
🖤despite the plot making literally no sense, it’s so entertaining. just suspend your sense of disbelief and don’t ask too many questions
🖤compelling female protagonist - Reese Witherspoon is not a good writer as evidenced by this book, but she does know how to create a compelling woman lead
🖤the premise is unique and compelling AF - even if it relies on less than believable plot devices like an AI grief bot (just go with it)

ROCK PAPER SCISSORS | ⭐️⭐️

the worst thing a thriller can be for us is boring or silly - and this one unfortunately alternated between both throughout. in summary, it’s a no from us dog

📚READ MARRY KILL RATING
⭐️⭐️/5 much like this book did to our attention span, you should kill it from your TBR list

📚SYNOPSIS | Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney
troubled couple adam and amelia win an anniversary trip to a remote, snowed in scottish cottage. what begins as a last ditch effort to save their marriage quickly devolves into a terrifying ordeal as they realize they’re not alone and their darkest secrets are coming back to haunt them

📚WHY WE’D KILL THIS BOOK
🔪the plot twists are such a stretch and not supported by the story/built up, so they ultimately feel like a cop out
🔪characters are BEYOND unlikable and selfish - really hard to root for and I honestly didn’t care what happened to them by the end of the story
🔪very slow pacing with the first two-thirds of the book just draaaaaagging. the pacing picked up at the end with the twists, but they didn’t land
🖤we did like the remote Scotland setting and felt like the vibe was right for a thriller having the story take place there

ATMOSPHERE | ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

drop what you’re doing right now, go to your local bookstore, get a copy of this book, and start reading immediately. atmosphere is a MUST READ. we laughed, we cried (sobbed), we are simply obsessed. @tjenkinsreid is truly the GOAT of storytelling with women at the forefront - and this may be her best work since the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo!

📚READ MARRY KILL RATING
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 immediate marry and a contender for best book of 2025!

📚SYNOPSIS | ATMOPSPHERE by Taylor Jenkins Reid
physics professor joan goodwin leaves her quiet life behind to become one of NASA’s first female astronauts. alongside a diverse group of fellow trainees, she navigates intense training and finds an unexpected passion and love she never imagined. but on a fateful 1984 mission, everything changes in an instant, forcing her to confront her place in the world. fast paced, thrilled and emotional - atmosphere is Taylor Jenkins Reid at her very best.

📚WHY WE ARE SIMPLY OBSESSED
🖤compelling and emotional love story that’s slow burn, heartfelt, and ultimately gut wrenching
🖤rich complex characters and a sense of found family
🖤themes of identity and self discovery that are explored so tastefully and authentically to the journey of womanhood
🖤Taylor Jenkins Reid’s signature storytelling style is on display and firing on all cylinders - captivating character driven writing

MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT | ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️

How does a child’s kidnapping story leave me feeling like this emoji at the end 🥹 This book had the perfect balance of mystery, haunting, and wholesome raw emotions of grief. Riley Sager does it again.

📚READ MARRY KILL RATING
⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️ /5

📚SYNOPSIS | middle of the night by Riley Sager
Ethan Marsh returns to his childhood hometown thirty years after his best friend Billy disappeared during a backyard sleepover, only to experience unsettling, seemingly supernatural occurrences in the middle of the night—like signs of Billy’s presence on the quiet cul-de-sac . As Ethan digs into the past, he reconnects with former friends and uncovers dark secrets tied to the parapsychological Hawthorne Institute, confronting grief, memory, and the terrifying possibility that the past might not be as buried as he thought.

📚REASONS WE LOVED THIS
🖤 a little twist of ghosts and cults (we love a cult)
🖤 likable main character
🖤 comes full circle and ends on a charming heart warming note

🔪 my one complaint is it started a little slow and repetitive but quickly picks up. taken in Fort Lauderdale, Florida by @read.marry.kill

THE FUTURE | ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

we are huge fans of the dystopia genre, and the future is one of the best dystopian reads we’ve read in 2025. and despite being eerily timely to our world today, it ends on an incredibly hopeful note, something we all need right now. in addition to us, this book has Margaret Atwood’s stamp of approval, so really what more needs to be said? go buy this book and thank us later for the rec

📚READ MARRY KILL RATING
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

📚SYNOPSIS | The Future by Naomi Alderman
a small group of friends plot a daring heist to save the world from tech giants whose greed threatens civilization. the story follows martha, an executive assistant to a powerful social media mogul, and lai zhen, an internet-famous survivalist fleeing an assassin. when a remarkable piece of software appears on zhen’s phone, their worlds collide, setting off an explosive chain of events with the fate of humanity hanging in the balance.

📚REASONS WE’D MARRY THIS BOOK
🖤innovative storytelling and structure - from a nonsequential timeline with flashbacks and flash forwards to chapters framed as social media posts, this story’s structure is so cool and fun to follow
🖤thought provoking themes that are highly timely - the corruptive power of tech billionaires, negative impact of social media algorithms on society, and our relationship with technology are all explored deeply
🖤despite the bleak timeliness, this story is ultimately incredibly optimistic - maybe all is not as lost as it seems. the writing is filled with warmth and wisdom while acknowledging human weaknesses and resilience

DONT LET HIM IN | ⭐️⭐️⭐️

we are huge fans of lisa jewell and couldn’t wait to read her latest. unfortunately this one fell into the good-not-great category for us. it’s a solid thriller and ties up SO well at the end which is why we wouldn’t kill this one, but we found it to be a frustrating read and not one of our favorites by her.

📚READ MARRY KILL RATING
⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 and the first 200 pages are a 1-2 star for us - the ending gave it a boost

📚SYNOPSIS | Don’t Let Him In by Lisa Jewell
the lives of three women are intertwined by one enigmatic man. nina, recently widowed, finds herself drawn to friend of her late husband nick, while her suspicious daughter investigates his past. meanwhile, martha, a florist in a neighboring town, grows increasingly uneasy about her husband al’s disappearances and secretive behavior. as their stories converge, the women are forced to confront a dark reality they wished they had heeded a warning about.

📚THINGS WE LIKED / DIDNT LIKE
🖤exploration of timely themes particularly narcissism in men and how predators exploit grief and loneliness
🖤the twists weren’t exactly hard to spot, but all the loose ends did come together nicely at the end and we found it to be a satisfying conclusion
🔪the enigmatic man at the center of the story was SO OBVIOUSLY SUS that we found it frustrating so many women ignored the red flags for so long. it was teetering on an unbelievable level of gullibility for us and almost cartoonishly naive women characters
🔪we love a multiple POVs thriller and generally have no issue following many characters at various points in time, but this one was hard to follow at points (particularly once we got to the amanda of it all)

LONG TIME GONE | ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

@charliedonlea is quickly becoming one of our top favs of thriller writers (although @harlancoben will ALWAYS hold the top spot). much like our man harlan, all of his thrillers can be depended on for twists you don’t see coming and fact paced plots that make you not want to stop reading - and long time gone is no exception!

📚READ MARRY KILL RATING
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 not quite marry level but we def recco reading (twenty years later by this same author is a 5 star recco for us)

📚SYNOPSIS | Long Time Gone by Charlie Donlea
after sloan hastings discovers through a DNA test she is actually “baby Charlotte,” who mysteriously vanished with her affluent parents nearly 3 decades prior, a wild ride ensues. her search for answers leads her to a small, ominous nevada town where she uncovers a dangerous web of corruption, power and long buried family secrets.

📚 REASONS WE SAY READ THIS
🖤complex and well-layered plot with time jumps that are easy to follow and come together at the end
🖤surprising twists that stick the landing in a satisfying way
🖤meticulously researched - we learned more than we expected to about the world of forensic genealogy, adding authenticity to the story

ONE OF THE GIRLS | ⭐️⭐️⭐️

this was a good, solid thriller for us - but not quite great. it’s definitely a slow burn, where we prefer to be hooked from the start. that said, the characters are interesting and complex and the twists at the end were satisfying (if not a bit predictable).

📚READ MARRY KILL RATING
⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 although more of a 3.5!

📚SYNOPSIS | One of the Girls by Lucy Clarke
this domestic thriller centers on a bachelorette party gone wrong, set on a remote greek island. six women, each with their own secrets and simmering tensions, gather for a celebratory weekend that quickly devolves into suspicion and danger. as past resentments resurface and a storm traps them, the women realize that one of them may not make it off the island

📚WHAT WE LIKED / DIDNT LIKE
🖤definitely an easy read with short chapters - this is a perfect vacation book / book for a long flight
🖤centers on 6 women all of whom are complex and interesting, exploring themes of motherhood, love and life choices
🔪the plot is a little too similar to big little lies for our liking (cant say more without spoiling)
🔪too slow of a burn and took about 100 pages for us to be genuinely interested in what was going on
