Introduction post✨

So I thought I would do a little hey, hi, hello! I am Keeley, I have been on bookstagram since November. I have always loved reading, from reading Mog the Forgetful Cat, to Judy Blume, Jacqueline Wilson, Jenny Colgan and now I am a huge fan of Freida McFadden, Alice Feeney, Lucinda Berry and lots more!!

I mainly enjoy reading psychological thrillers, I love a cheeky plot twist. I also really enjoy dystopian, queer & feminist literature and some romantasy - I am currently reading the Throne of Glass series.

I am 26 and currently living in Brighton, I try and go to @chaptersandchai_bookclub_ as much as I can as it’s full of super lovely people who love books as much as I do! However, I have recently received an ADHD diagnosis and that has sent me into a bit of a spiral so my book club days and reading are less and less at the moment!

I obviously could go on & on about my reading habits, and things I enjoy about bookstagram but I don’t want you bore you any further✌🏻

Tell me about your bookstagram journey and your love for reading!!!🩷

Trying to make my page a little more spooky looking for October👻🧡💀🎃🖤

Scandal by Kelly & Kristina Mancaruso⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you @hannahreads.26 for gifting this to me & introducing me to it in the first place! This book was a 4.5 star read for me. I really enjoyed the writing style, the character development unfolded at a good pace & the plot twists were really good. I did think the ending was one plot twist too far, but I still enjoyed it!

The only downside for me was the pacing at the beginning was a little slow, I wanted to get into the story a bit quicker.

A thriller I would recommend to everyone as it was twisty, tense & the football aspect was quite interesting too.

My official unofficial October TBR🤫

As a mood reader, I never usually create a specific TBR for each month but there are some here that I feel are Halloween/horror themed and therefore I want to read them. I also am staying at my mum’s for a couple of weeks so I needed to haul some books to her house so I have a bit of a choice.

Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have wanted to read this for ages and I was not disappointed. This felt like a human version of Animal Farm but with more gore and distressing topics. It also kind of feels like an actual possibility, which is pretty horrifying to say but humankind never fails to surprise me…

It was really easy to read and I don’t quite get the low rating on Goodreads or when people say it’s slow. What is slow about human’s being bred, cut up and eaten? It also put a magnifying glass on the inhumane strategies used for animal slaughter in our society… It is truly horrifying to think their breeding purpose is for consumption and pleasure of humans only.

I found the characters quite interesting and the sister was so deeply annoying but potentially less problematic than the main character, at least it’s obvious where she stands? Marcos kept me questioning whether he’s actually good or bad right until the end and I am not sure if I was happy with the answer.

The ending was good, but I actually would have liked a longer book, call me weird but I was interested in the laboratory, the almost extinct animals, the virus & the general regression of humanity.

If you are going to read this book, definitely read the content warnings!!!

There is something poetic about such a brutal book being surrounded by beautiful petals🖤

For anyone who enjoyed Dissection of a Murder, I am fairly sure you will enjoy this too! This is a front row seat to a sensitive murder trial involving three young boys as the accused and a defenceless old man as the victim.

It is quite law heavy and I learnt some new terminology which I enjoyed but if you’re wanting a quick easy read and you aren’t knowledgeable about the criminal justice system, it might be a bit much. The pacing did slow down in the last third, but I was already intrigued by this point and needed answers.

The author is brilliant at character writing and particularly good at manipulating the reader to feel and think certain things which I kind of enjoyed as it was very cleverly achieved! I also enjoyed some of the more minor storylines parallel to the main story, it gave some more depth to some of the slower chapters.

I rated this 4.5 stars and would definitely read another by this author!
