the adults.

my rating - 5⭐️

I can’t cope. I’ve just finished this so raw feelings but I absolutely loved this book. A coming of age story I didn’t know I needed to read. It starts with Emily at a family party and ends, years later, in a version of that same gathering only everything has shifted, and somehow nothing has.

It was just an honest story of 15 years of a girls life starting at 14. It’s messy but beautifully observed. It has every real thing like friendship, family, mistakes, death and the painful process of growing up. At times it was funny but without losing its ache. I feel like I’ve been on a journey and I loved the writing so much

Lil life and reading update 🌟🌟🌟

Heyyyy queens, I’ve been abit quiet on here, I’ve missed you!!!last week was really shitty for me. I realllyy don’t do well with anything health related. looool but I’m feeling myself now and looking forward to getting back into the swing of things for September. Some exciting things to look forward to πŸ’ŒπŸŒŸπŸ‚πŸ₯Ή

my last read
Look what you made me do by John Lanchester. Hmmm I think I liked the idea of this book more than I liked the actual book. It had all the right vibes there for something twisted, but the execution was a little bit underwhelming. I will say It was really fast paced I didn’t wanna put it down, but just not quite what I was hoping for. Sooo middle of the road rating 2.5 ⭐️

currently reading
Four past midnight by Stephen King is four creepy novellas from 1989. They all play with the idea of time in weird and unsettling ways. I’ve only read the first so far and enjoyed it but I think will be my least fave of the 4. He is obviously an amazing writer but incredibly descriptive so you just have to be in the mood for a bit of King sized storytelling. My goal is to get through the other three by the end of September!!!
The Adults by Alison Espach. omg. Loving!! It’s a coming of age story following Emily, capturing all the chaos, awkwardness and questionable decisions that come with growing up. I’m literally getting Coco Mellors vibes from the writing style. It’s simple, easy, and so addictive. This book was written in 2011!!! it’s the same author who wrote the wedding people which was a favourite on here last year. I still need to read it but I’m so glad I picked this one up first! I’ve got a feeling this could be a favouriteeeee

my next read
The knight and the moth by Rachel Gillig aka the gothic fantasy queen. it’s exactly the vibe I’m craving right now going into autumn. I absolutely loved the Shepherd King duology, so I’m excited to pick this one up. Her magic systems and world-building feels so fresh and unlike anything else I’ve read and I know a lot of you loved it so I hope it lives up to the hypeee

I literally devoured all of these books in a few days, if not the same day!! Completely compelling characters that I will never forget & stories that are now memories β™‘

π’‘π’Šπ’„π’Œ 𝒖𝒑

there’s not many books I would refuse to pick up but 3 of these, I would literally never read because they disturb me (I’m sure you’re aware of which ones). The other two are just part of series that I just don’t think I can invest that much time on something I might not enjoy as much as everyone else :/

𝒔𝒉𝒖𝒕 𝒖𝒑 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕

There were too many to pick from!!! Annoyingly any book that I love, I could talk about for hours. 4 of these I read this year so they’re fresh on my mind and always 1st to recommend people. John Gwynn is my favourite author. I’m at that point where I miss the characters in his books. All of his series are outstanding to me so hmmm due a re read?

𝒓𝒆-𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅

I didn’t completely hate these books on my first read. Some I didn’t like the writing style, some had a lack of plot and one just pmo that much that I wouldn’t dream of re reading πŸ˜… I know happy place is a favourite and trust me I LOVE Em Hen, this just did not hit for me or Divine Rivals. ugly love are you kidding me? The night we lost him snooze fest sorry!! I who have never known men - fantastic, frustrating, hated the ending but loved the journey. taken in BOOKSTA by @read.withlaura

Chapter 28 πŸŽ‚βœ¨

A solo birthday shopping trip, reading in the park, coffee and catch up with my friend and her gorgeous baby girl, then Italian food for tea with my dad and boyfriend. The birthday feelings get less and less magical as we get older but today, I’ve felt so grateful for all the little things in my life and it couldn’t have been more perfect. holidaying πŸοΈπŸŒΊπŸŒŸπŸ“–πŸ’

What an unreal 11 nights we’ve have here in Cyprus celebrating our friends getting married! Me and my boyfriend have loved being here with all of their families, and definitely getting our monies worth on the all inclusive obvs!!! πŸ₯‚
ive been reading throughout the days but the slump was slumping. The song of Achilles, as many of you warned me was devastating so i just had no idea what to read next. The bright years I’ve heard incredible things about but felt like it was too heavy after my heartbreak so I started Last Day, a real who done it murder mystery which actually has me hoooked.

And everything is suddenly ok when you spend the morning at the beach πŸ–οΈ

My current read The Song Of Achilles is actually the perfect beach read. Im just a girl that loved The Odyssey so much I had to continue the Greek mythology consumption. So many people loved this book and say it’s a real heartbreaker which is exactly what I need.

Have a lovely Tuesday loves, I know I will 🌺 taken in Cyprus by @read.withlaura
