POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
We have so many new Instagram followers, we thought we’d use this as an excuse to introduce ourselves.

Hello! The Purse was founded by Lindsey Stanberry in 2023, and Alicia Adamczyk joined in 2025. We’ve been friends and colleagues for years, and The Purse is our dream site where we’re telling real stories about women, money, the economy, and so much more.

Sometimes, we look really glamorous, like in our gorgeous portraits by @nadyawasylko. But most of the time, we’re just busy journalists-turned-entrepreneurs trying to get it all done while taking too many mirror selfies. (OK, OK, that’s just Lindsey!)

We love the community we’re building at The Purse, and sometimes we host in-person events like a vision-board party earlier this year. We send out two newsletters every week on Wednesdays and Fridays, and we publish stories on our site every day.

Whether you’re looking for the inside scoop on how real women earn, spend, and save their money or you’re looking to up your personal finance knowledge, we’re here to help!

It can feel impossible to find the balance between spending money in the present and saving for a comfortable future. Inevitably there are going to be some compromises. Especially if you’re single and earning $60k a year. But this Home Ec writer does a pretty impressive job stashing money away for retirement while making sure her life if still filled with joy and fun activities. (Just don’t invite her out for a matcha!)

Comment ‘Vermont’ and we’ll send you the full Home Ec.

When people learn we write about personal finance for a living, they often ask us for our stock tips or money hacks. Surely, there must be some secret to how the rich get rich, some life-changing strategy normal people aren’t privy to.

But the truth is that for most people, the boring money tips you’ve likely heard—and will hear again—are what work best. Particularly when you’re just starting out on your financial journey.

Comment “boring” and we’ll share some of our most boring—but essential—tips.

How much do you need in an emergency savings account? The rule of thumb is usually 3 to 6 months worth of living expenses. But for many Americans that can be a hard goal to achieve. It’s ok to start smaller

CFP @jumoffices offers some advice in a recent article on The Purse. Check out the full article in our link in bio.

This September, we leaned into our personal finance roots with so many good stories that asked (and answered) some big money questions!!

- We spoke to @rachelsl.fp at @monarch_money about budgets (and why you maybe don’t need one!)

@byaliciaadamczyk wrote about why you need to save for the future even when it feels like the end of the world

Commenters got mad/worried about the size of this family’s emergency fund

We wanted to hear what you think about the viral social media debate: Is it OK to bring an iced coffee to a job interview?

We tried to answer the question about how much you should have in emergency savings

Commenters were impressed with this single woman who’s paying off big debts while still trying to enjoy life in NYC

- We shared our money principles that help shape our editorial decisions at The Purse

@lestanberry wrote about a new proposal to pay stay-at-home parents (and why the proposed policy is bad, but the sentiment is good)

A public accountant with nearly two decades of experience shared her salary journey

@badfatblackgirl took us along on her solo Berlin writing retreat (so jealous!)

And The Purse team got out of the office for a fun retreat in Cape Cod! by @read_thepurse

While a college degree does provide some workers with a higher earning potential, it’s not the only route to finding a well-paying career. In this edition of Work History, a woman working in health systems shares her career journey to a six figure salary, as well as her decision to take a pay cut when seeking more security.

One of the keys to her success: “Networking and earning additional medical certifications have helped me advance my career and gain valuable experience,” she writes. “Those opportunities have opened more doors for me than I ever imagined.”

Comment “network” and we’ll share her full story.

In July, we asked Purse readers: What expensive things are worth it?

This month, we’re asking the opposite: What *isn’t* worth the money?

Leave your thoughts in the comments!

Everyone has *feelings* about Gen Z rolling into job interviews with iced coffees. But maybe instead of making a reaction video taking them to task, we should offer them some interview advice?

What do you think? Would you bring an iced coffee to an interview? And what’s your best interview advice for new grads?

The idea that AI could bring about the end of humanity in less than a decade has been dominating the news cycle as of late. But business reporter and The Purse executive editor @aliciaadamczyk argues that these doomsday predictions aren’t a valid excuse to stop saving for the future. Arguably, it’s more important than ever.

Comment ‘doom’ and we’ll send you the link to the free newsletter!
