how are you?

I have binged the off campus episodes in the last two days and I couldn’t be more ready for a rewatch already 😂. Although I have only read the first book in the series I really loved how the adaptation turned out to be! This might be an unpopular opinion, but I am convinced that changes in on screen adaptations should be welcomed when needed to improve the overall quality of the story and allow it to reach its full potential!

Here’s some more thoughts about why I particularly enjoyed some changes made in the tv show:
1. This was my personal favourite. The hands-off law trope might have worked ten years ago when the book was published for the first time, but honestly it is such a toxic and possessive reaction from Garrett and I was glad they decided to give more depth to his character by changing that part.
2. A much-needed change in my opinion. Because of Hannah’s past it makes more sense that she is not attracted to another athlete in the first place AND by giving showing her and Justin collaborating on song writing added more nuances to Hannah’s passion for music and her story alongside the romance
3. This one was a very minor change but I believe it explains better why Logan has a crush on Hannah later on 💕

Q: have you watched the tv show already? What were your thoughts on it?

how are you?

I thought this account needed a post like this one as I’ve felt like I’ve lost connections with all the many new faces who joined this absolutely cozy mess of Ig page of mine 💕💌.

So, hi everyone!! My name is Laura and I’m a 23yo girl from Italy who moved to Scotland four years ago to study English Literature!! I’ve now completed my undergrad and I’ll be moving to Ireland next year for my masters <3. I mostly read lit fic, magical realism, romance and fantasy but my fav thing is when (especially the last three) gets mixed up together in the same book!!

I also used to be part of my drama club in high school and I’ll probably join some theatre club in Dublin next year (hopefully!!) and last but not least I am that annoying friend who will always ask you to take a picture when we’re hanging out together!

Q: any fav genre or fav book in common?

“Instead of being afraid I would become something to fear”. -Holly Black, the Cruel Prince 👑

welcome November ! these are the photos I took in an attempt of cosplaying as Jude for my bookclub Halloween party! It was so much fun re-creating her dress and hair style and it made me so proud although the result is not perfect and I am aware there way better cosplays of her 🤍!
This was my ‘thank you’ to this beautiful series which I finished last week. I know it is not appreciated by many people and that it certainly has its flaws, however, I found it a thrilling story with powerful and intriguing characters and engaging scheming and plotting!

#quotd what character did you dress up as for Halloween?

how are you?

I’ve watched the love hypothesis yesterday and although there were significant changes from the book i still enjoyed it very much! I feel like it really spoke to us uni students with its portrayal of the impostor syndrome you might experience at uni, or the puzzlement you feel when moving into a new campus. It was absolutely relatable!
Apart from that, I feel that it really emphasised the potential of women’s solidarity in both Ol and Anh’s friendship but also, and particularly, in Olive and her female professor’s relationship!

I get that the ending was quite different from the novel and yes, I might have liked more original scenes adapted. However for me it was one of a kind romcom which deserves all the hype!

Q: have you watched the movie yet?

how are yous bookstagram besties?

here’s a recap of my last week spent at the seaside with my family, chilling and enjoying this absolutely gorgeous book by janet frame + some dickens in view of my postgraduate course!

Faces in the Waters tells the horrifying experience of its protagonist Istina in a psychiatric hospital in New Zealand in the 60s. It’s not exactly what you’d define a beach read but it was strictly related to what I have been researching for my undergraduate thesis and I found it very captivating!

how are yous? 🤍

A little late but here’s my july readings wrapped!
I must admit I haven’t really had much time to sit down with a book this past month between enjoying the time at home with my family and catching up with my friends! I feel like the read I got through, however, were all a solid 3/4 stars!

My personal favourite was a Theory of Dreaming the sequel to a Study in Drowning which kept the same magical/ fairytale like atmosphere but focused more on Preston!

I also really enjoyed The Ha Ha by Jennifer Dawson which attacks the treatment of mental health back in the 50s! I must admit that it portrayed the protagonist’s experience of dissociation from reality so well and the awful conditions in which some patients of psychiatric hospital lived back then so well that sometimes it was very hard to go on with it! I still gave it four stars anyway exactly because of its poignancy!

Q: were you happy with your July reads?

how are yous?

I had to jump on this trend because it’s genuinely so fun to see how widely varied my reading tastes are 😂😭, from classics to romantasy and I must admit I love them all the same ahaha!

💌 a tiny reminder that there is no such a thing as loving the wrong books!

Q: do we have any favourite books in common?

how are yous?

Currently on a spinning wheel of emotions since I’m graduating tomorrow from my undergrad at uni — and as excited as I am to close this chapter, everything also feels a little bittersweet.
But enough with the sad stuff; here’s a little review of The Someday Garden by the queen herself, @heyashposton .

This book beautifully explores the uncertainty of figuring out who you are, even after dedicating years to a particular study or career path. It shows the importance of allowing yourself to truly live again after losing someone you love, and it captures how losing friends can be just as heartbreaking as a romantic breakup.

I especially loved the descriptions of Sophie’s job, all the gardening methods and the flowers and watching her growing and learning to accept her emotions throughout the story. And even though there’s definitely a touch of magic woven in (it is a magical realism romance, after all), the book authentically portrays the struggle of navigating your late twenties and thirties — especially that fear of suddenly not knowing your direction in life anymore.

A five‑star read, no doubt.

Q: have you read this one/ is this on your tbr? 💌💐

how are you?

here’s a photo dump of my first week of the month + a cute photo from the only solo date I managed to plan in the past few days since from this monday i’ve been experiencing a bad flu and stayed in most of the time 🥲.

The only positive side of this was that I had more time to read and to start the new ashely poston’s magic realism romance!! It’s sooo addictive guys you have no idea I’m already halfway through it and I almost cried twice. I feel like the timing couldn’t be better for me to read this book. In many ways, it speaks directly to the anxiety of not knowing what to do even after earning a degree in a field you genuinely love and since I’m graduating next week but I still have a lot of uncertainties about next year idk I found it hit close to home.🌟

Q: what’s a gente that never disappoint you?
I feel like magic realism is my all time comfort one both to write and to read! It’s just the perfect mix of whimsical and non-fiction!

here’s a little recap of last week which has been incredibly productive reading-wise!

I wasn’t feeling well most of the days but that somehow gave me the right energy to get out of one month-long reading slump 😭!!
I’ve finished my throat is an open grave by tori bovalino a gothic, faerie romance which I absolutely LOVED!! I’m going to post a review about it soon!!

Rn I am reading the new ashley poston’s magic realism novel which I have been waiting since last summer !! 👉🏻👈🏻. I am only a few pages in but so far it’s definitely very good!!

happy wednesday bookstagram besties <3
how are you?

here’s my short review of the midnight train, a book which I have enjoyed a lot ngl especially since it got me out of one month reading slump after finishing my diss 👉🏻👈🏻

Soo, the Midnight Train follows Wilbur, an 80 year old man who, after his death, boards a magical train that takes him on a journey through the defining moments of his life. Along the way, he revisits his relationships with his wife, family, and friends, and reflects on the choices that shaped his character.
It’s an easy book to sink into: the chapters are short, and the premise immediately draws you in. From the very beginning, you find yourself wondering whether Wilbur will feel regret, gain insight from this afterlife experience, or discover a final moral. I moved effortlessly through the different episodes of his life, all while reflecting on the larger themes they raise. The story is bittersweet and nostalgic, yet at times brutally honest about human nature.
My only criticism is that the narration occasionally feels a little shallow. Because everything is told from Wilbur’s perspective—and he has already lived through the scenes he revisits—the reader sometimes remains a spectator. Instead of experiencing emotions alongside young Wilbur, we are often told why he acted or felt a certain way.
That said, the twist halfway through the book addresses this issue beautifully and prevents the story’s premise from becoming predictable and shifts the focus to elderly Wilbur instead.

Q: have you read this one? What were your thoughts about it?
