Join Adabiyat and @readbyrazan this October for a spooky debut 👻 by @deenahlm

In this lyrical debut, three generations of Palestinian women must put the haunting of their ancestral home to rest, before the secrets of the past drown them all. Our Cut of Salt is a powerful and intimate look at what it means to make a home, to lose it, and to return, only to find it irrevocably changed.

Details to join will be published soon. In the meantime, pre-order your book now!

Ramadan read-along recap :)

Here are some of my favourite quotes from the book: (full review mid-carousel)

✨ “Each individual or creation is unique and unrepeated, according to God’s Attribute of being Vast. Therefore, there must be as many paths to God via beliefs as there are individuals.”

✨ “What is striking is the all-inclusiveness of Ibn ʿArabī’s non-reductionist pluralism. The way every person relates to God, or conceives of Him, is not in vain or ‘false.’ There is a place for everyone, since the divine bounty includes all.”

✨ “A perfect gnostic will never deny the belief of another believer, no matter their sect or creed.”

Wishing everyone a blessed Eid! 💫 by @readbyrazan

Greater Than The Sum Of Our Parts - Nada Elia

My pick for International Women’s Day. 🤍

A powerful reflection on solidarity, collective liberation, and the importance of intersectional justice movements. Drawing from her experience as a scholar and activist, Elia argues that struggles against oppression—whether related to race, colonialism, gender, or economic injustice—are deeply interconnected and must be addressed together.

“Wielding women’s and gay rights in a colonial context is a weaponizing of these rights that harms, rather than helps, the targeted communities.”

The book challenges you to rethink what solidarity truly means. It serves as both a critique of performative activism and urges us to recognise political struggles not as isolated issues, but as interconnected parts of a global fight against oppression.

Namesake - N S Nuseibeh

Reflections on life as an Arab, Muslim, Palestinian woman in the UK after a childhood in Jerusalem. ‘Namesake’ is a remarkable, deeply relatable and insightful read that challenges both modern stereotypes and historical misconceptions.

Food threads its way through the narrative, not as decoration but as memory, comfort, and cultural anchor. Meals, recipes, and the rituals around cooking become a way of holding on to home, especially when home itself feels fractured or distant. Food functions as inheritance, language, and emotional shorthand, carrying history when words fall short.

The result is a touching tribute to the ancient female warrior Nuseibah, interlaced with the heartfelt musings of her present-day namesake. ❤️ by @readbyrazan

Ramadan read-along! 🌙

Join us this Ramadan for a read-along of Faris Abdelhadi’s ‘Ibn Arabi’s Religious Pluralism’, a thoughtful exploration of inclusivity, spirituality and philosophy.

Although it’s an academic text, the writing is accessible and engaging, and its themes feel particularly fitting for Ramadan. We’ll move at a gentle pace of ten pages per day, creating space for reflection and discussion along the way.

📣 Giveaway Alert 📣
I’ll also be giving away five copies of the book!

Comment below to join the read-along, and let me know if you’d also like to be entered into the giveaway. I’ll create the group chat on the first day of Ramadan (February 18th/19th) and announce the winners there.

I’m truly looking forward to sharing this journey with you, and deeply admire Faris Abdelhadi’s work. 🤍

Her First Palestinian - Saeed Teebi

A collection of short stories that captures the complexity of life in the Palestinian diaspora. Witty, nuanced, and socially astute, it portrays vivid yet flawed characters whose everyday struggles form a profoundly relatable reflection on identity, belonging, and displacement.

P.S the last piece, “Enjoy your life, capo” is a masterpiece. ❤️‍🔥 by @readbyrazan

I’ll Tell You When I’m Home - Hala Alyan

What does “home” mean when return is impossible? When exile quietly reshapes family, love, and identity across generations.

In her memoir, Hala Alyan traces a life shaped by war, migration, and loss, moving between the Middle East and the United States. Structured nonlinearly, the narrative shifts between past and present, centering on Alyan’s recent surrogacy experience. Her writing is raw and intimate, navigating motherhood, grief, miscarriage, belonging, and inherited trauma with unflinching honesty.

“You have a video game heart, my friend Olivia once tells me. You have a heart that keeps regenerating.”

💛💛💛

Simply put, it’s a gorgeous, tender read. I’ve always had a soft spot for poets who write prose, and Hala Alyan’s writing truly redefines the word ‘lyrical’. ✨💫 by @readbyrazan

Daybreak in Gaza

From Armenian and African minorities to Dom (‘Gypsy’) communities, Palestinian refugees from nearby towns, and long-established local families, this anthology will introduce you to a Gaza you’ve never encountered before. It brings together international parkour competitors, a multigenerational photography studio, poets, artists, and more; capturing everyday life, creativity, and resilience beyond reductive narratives.

As Christina Sharpe observes in her book ‘In the Wake: On Blackness and Being’, repeated images of suffering do not “…lead primarily to sympathy or something like empathy; such repetitions often work to solidify or make continuous the colonial project of violence.” This makes it all the more imperative to document Gazan life, not just death.

Crucially, this is also one of the few books about Gaza that actually commits a portion of its sales and book tour profits to charity, specifically Medical Aid for Palestinians. It’s vital that books not only educate but give back to the communities they represent. Shoutout to @saqibooks and I hope more publishers follow suit 🙏

Lastly, don’t miss these standout works from the anthology: Mahmoud Darwish’s ‘Silence for the sake of Gaza’ and Ghassan Kanafani’s ‘Letter From Gaza’. 💔 by @readbyrazan
