From paddling through whitewater rapids on the Nantahala River to hiking through the forest toward the Wesser Bald fire tower, this chapter is all about the little moments (and big adventures) that make exploring the outdoors so memorable.

Follow along through hand-drawn illustrations, and little discoveries from the trail. All tucked into our latest Chapter Now adventure mail. ✉️

Back in 2015 I worked as the whitewater rafting photographer at the @nantahalaoutdoorcenter. It was a hilarious job that consisted of me sitting for hours waiting for boats to come through the final rapid. These were the photos you could buy in the store after departing your raft kinda like at Disney world. The funniest story was this kid jumping out of his raft and flipping me the bird 😅.

Another aspect of this job that really made me love the outdoors was living inside of a screened in “garden shed” in the middle of the woods for the summer. See photo below.

What’s the craziest job you’ve ever had? by @readchapternow

The beauty of a coloring sheet is that you can make it your own! Has everyone received their Zion mail for September? We want to see your colored in drawings!! Comment your photos below. I think next month we might switch this up and create a word search or I spy… you vote below!

This images is from my bestie @swirlexy! She and her little sis got to have a creative moment together thanks to Chapter Now. We hope this mail club is giving you and your little ones a fun analog creative outlet each month, and inspiring you to go outside and live a story worth telling! by @readchapternow

If you’re planning to visit Zion National Park, the “easy-mode” way to see the park is to bike through it on the shuttle road! This road is closed to thru traffic, other than the shuttle, so the road is mostly open for two-wheeled cruisin’. This was my favorite way to see Zion in a short amount of time. We did this the day after hiking Angels Landing as more of a “chill day” activity. Can’t wait to share more from this experience in this month’s adventure mail!! Visiting Zion National Park? Know these before you go:

Angels Landing requires a permit (apply through the lottery on Recreation.gov well before your trip) we applied about a week prior and got lucky!

The Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is shuttle-only most of the year, so plan to park and ride (the shuttle OR YOUR BIKE!!!)

Get to the shuttle early (parking fills up fast, especially in summer)

Check the flash flood forecast before hiking The Narrows (it can close with little warning)

Rent canyoneering boots and a walking stick in Springdale for The Narrows (your feet will thank you)

Pack more water than you think you need (summer temps regularly climb past 100°F)

Start hikes at sunrise to beat the heat and the crowds—trust me, the colors in the morning are gorgeous!!

Wear shoes with good grip, because the sandstone gets slick (this is for your safety, and the safety of others!!)

Bring layers, since mornings in the canyon can be chilly even when afternoons are hot. I recommend a sun hoodie!

Don’t feed the squirrels (they’re bolder than they look hehe)

Download offline maps, because cell service is spotty in the canyon (I love AllTrails app)

Stay for sunset at the Watchman Trail or Canyon Junction Bridge

A little planning goes a long way in one of America’s most breathtaking parks. Start early, stay hydrated, and ⚠️ don’t forget your Angels Landing permit ⚠️ — the rangers do check. 📖🇺🇸🌎🏜️

Save this list for your adventure and share it with your travel crew.
