The book that got me reading had a ridiculous cover and a talking cat. 😂

I found Dungeon Crawler Carl while walking through Barnes & Noble. The cover made me stop. The back made me take it home.

I wanted to spend less time scrolling, but I needed a story I actually wanted to come back to. Dungeon Crawler Carl gave me that. Then Red Rising got me completely hooked.

Now, here we are using Fall and Halloween as an opportunity to explore Thrillers and Horror.

If you’re trying to get into reading, my advice is to follow your curiosity. Funny, weird, romantic, terrifying, whatever makes you want to turn the page.

What book would you hand someone who thinks reading isn’t for them?

“To live for more.”

For me, that has meant choosing to take better care of myself mentally and physically. Not only for myself but for my wife and daughters.

Reading has helped me rebuild my focus, pushed me to think more deeply and given me a completely new love for storytelling.

Running has pushed me in a different way. It has shown me that I’m capable of doing hard things, but first, I had to choose to embrace the hard and face it head on.

Neither happened by fate. I had to make the choice to begin, and I’m still choosing both every day. I’m not perfect by any means but getting better day by day.

What does choosing to live for more look like for you?

I’m currently bouncing between The Eye of the Bedlam Bride and Home Before Dark. DCC continues to get better and more unhinged in the best way possible! Riley Sager has me hooked yet again.

I’m making progress with my spooky season TBR. I will need your help picking what I read once October ends!

What have you been reading this week?

First Motivation Monday, and it felt right to pull from the book that got me into reading!

“You will not break me” is one of those lines from Dungeon Crawler Carl that stuck with me. I don’t take it to mean I have to be tough every second or pretend hard days don’t hurt. Sometimes it just means I’m still here, doing my best, and taking the next step.

What’s a line from a book that’s stayed with you?

Spooky season is officially underway at Read Dad Repeat. 🎃📚

I’ve already finished Incidents Around the House and The Only One Left, and now I’m working my way through the rest of this list.

The goal is simple: find a book that actually scares the shit out of me. 😂 So I’m officially introducing:

READ DAD DREAD
and the Fuck That Shit Scale.

Incidents Around the House currently holds the lead with an FTS score of 2/5 and Other Mommy can fuck all the way off.

Which book has the best chance of beating it? And what am I missing?

Apparently becoming a reader also means building a TBR way faster than I can actually read it. 😂

I still have Dungeon Crawler Carl and Red Rising books to finish, several fantasy series I’m dying to start, some standalones that caught my attention, and a few recommendations from my wife that will pull me completely outside my comfort zone.

I have absolutely no idea what order I’m going to read these in. And yes, my spooky-season TBR is getting its own separate post because apparently I enjoy making this problem worse. 😂

Which book or series needs to move straight to the top of my list?

I’ve talked myself out of making this account and posting this video more times than I can count. But fuck…we’re doing it!

At 35, I accidentally became a reader. Dungeon Crawler Carl & Red Rising pulled me in and opened my eyes to the world of sci-fi and fantasy!. Now I want to see what else books have to offer.

I’m not a literary critic, and I probably won’t always have the perfect words. I’m just a busy dad sharing honest reactions, figuring out what I love, and hopefully connecting with people who get excited about books too.

And shoutout to @ finding your page gave me the final push to stop overthinking this and actually start.

This is post number one. Welcome to Read Dad Repeat. 📚
