A very quick and chill read that you cannot miss out on !
This book follows a man called Lucas who is happy with his video games, pad Thai with peanuts and being in his own company but one day things takes a turn because of a damn frying pan. This hilarious read is more about humans being humans. Loved it !!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- roused my hunger and now I wanna eat Pad thai with PEANUTS 🥜🤪❤️❤️

You simply cannot rush through this beautiful book.❤️
Having absolutely loved The Midnight Library and its exploration of the space between life and death, finding this book felt like a natural, deeply moving continuation. While the first book occupied that liminal space of regrets and choices, this story takes us on a literal and metaphorical journey through life after death. Both novels serve as reminders of how to truly live and embrace the present moment. Though not a direct sequel, as you read, you will delightfully realize how subtly yet beautifully connected their worlds are.
Written beautifully , this book is bound to leave you reflecting deeply on what it means to be alive. The story follows eighty one year old Wilbur Budd, who, after passing away, boards a mysterious midnight train. Setting out on a journey back through time, he meets the intriguing Mrs. Bagdale, setting the stage for a truly unforgettable voyage.❤️

What a great read !!!
This novel is based in Bangalore and follows a joint family whose lives takes a turn after their financial dynamics go up hill and then how sudden riches changed family’s moral dynamics and relationships. It is really thought provoking book as it will make you think beyond the words. 💯

The story revolves around Keiko, a woman in her mid-thirties who has spent eighteen years working at the same convenience store. While society views her life as stagnant due to her single status, lack of career advancement, and rigid daily routine, the novel offers a profound exploration of true personal satisfaction. Rather than pressuring individuals to conform to traditional expectations of marriage and conventional success, it beautifully highlights the importance of discovering what uniquely fulfills us and what are we made for. Ultimately, this compelling and fast-paced read offers a deeply resonant message that is easy to finish in a single sitting.🌷
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- “Deep down I wanted some kind of change. Any change, whether good or bad, would be better than the state of impasse I was in now.”

A Burning by Megha Majumdar masterfully follows the interconnected lives of three distinct individuals: a determined young girl struggling to make ends meet, an ambitious physical education teacher, and Lovely, a charismatic transgender woman. Through their converging stories, the novel provides a poignant commentary on systemic injustice, political maneuvering, the perils of circumstantial evidence, sensationalist journalism, and devastating betrayal. Moving between the perspectives of those who enjoy freedom and those who are trapped by circumstances, Majumdar crafts a beautiful yet deeply tragic narrative that is guaranteed to leave readers heartbroken.

The Alchemist is frequently praised as a masterpiece of motivational books, but for me, it served as little more than a cure for my insomnia. True motivation must come from within, and this book completely failed to deliver any meaningful self-help. The protagonist lacks a genuine, steady purpose in life; his goals shift constantly based on whatever girl he happens to look at. First, his ultimate dream is a merchant’s daughter, only for him to completely pivot to another woman, Fatima, later on. At one point, he is even ready to abandon his entire quest for the treasure just to settle down with his current earnings and new woman with whom he fell in love with. Ultimately, the story lacks real depth, proving that The Alchemist is less of a motivational guide and more of a tedious literary sleeping pill.
⭐️⭐️- reader sighs in disappointment.

Butter by Asako Yuzuki🧈
This book follows Rika Machida, a journalist in her thirties, as she investigates the case of Manako Kaji, a convicted serial killer held at the Tokyo Detention Centre. Manako stands accused of murdering three men by seducing them with her culinary skills. While the novel serves as an accessible, engaging read for anyone trying to break out of a reading slump, it is quite thick due to a large amount of filler material. This includes detailed cooking recipes and histories of fictional food companies that do not advance the main plot. Throughout the story, Manako Kaji’s deeply misogynistic views are bound to infuriate readers, yet her character remains undeniably spellbinding, and the vivid descriptions of food will certainly rouse your hunger. Additionally, the book beautifully explores the dynamics of female friendship through Rika and her best friend, Reiko, who is currently navigating an unhappy marriage. However, the final chapter feels entirely un engrossing, leaving the reader with the impression that the ending could have been significantly improved.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- liked this book it was an engrossing read except for one chapter and I fell under the spell of Kaji.

May 2026 Reading Wrap-Up
I started off the month with The Names by Florence Knapp, which was a selection for a book club. I gave it a four-star rating because, while it was a good book, it was quite sad. The story follows a woman who sets off to register the birth of her child and decides against the name her husband wanted due to its potential consequences, leaving her with two alternative choices. It explores different possibilities in a way that differs from The Midnight Library, though I felt one specific part of the book was unnecessary.
Next, I read my absolute favorite book of the month, Days at the Morisaki Bookshop. This was undoubtedly my favorite read of May. It has a magical, healing power to it and is incredibly comforting. Reading it felt like receiving a tight, warm hug. I highly recommend this beautiful book to everyone!
My final read for the month was Butter by Asako Yuzuki. This was an easy read that is perfect for pulling you out of a reading slump. The character Kaji is someone you might dislike at first, but you quickly fall under her spell. That said, the book could have been shorter; it included a lot of unnecessary details that didn’t contribute to the plot, such as lengthy recipes and background stories for fictional companies and restaurants. The ending also could have been better.
