I’m going to be totally honest and tell you that there was only one reason I decided to read this book. Lili Reinhart and her promo for the movie adaptation. She had me at the Andie Anderson dress and it just got better from there. So thank you @lilireinhart because I loved this book and I loved the movie! I adore Olive and Adam. I loved the writing. Their banter and chemistry was amazing. While this is obviously a fake dating trope I really liked how the circumstances were unique and the rest of the story doesn’t follow the normal annoying 3rd act stupid long break up trope among others. I’m sure I’m the last person to read this but if I’m not and you’re on the fence then I’d highly recommend giving it a shot. The audiobook narration by Callie Dalton was outstanding and I loved the bonus chapter from Adam’s POV by Teddy Hamilton as well. The movie was fantastic, Lili and Tom Bateman were so perfect as Olive and Adam. Using Cowboy by @selenagomez and @itsbennyblanco for the chapter 16 scene…perfection, 10/10, no notes! I’ll probably watch it again this weekend!

I first read Carrie sometime in the mid 90’s when I was entirely too young to really get it and I’ve seen the Sissy Spacek movie dozens of times since then. What I remembered from reading the book back then was it was scary so I was a little surprised to realize that reading it now it didn’t make me afraid, it made me sad. Even without watching the movie it’s very clear early on in the book that almost everyone dies. It’s split into the story from Carrie’s POV, other character POV’s, excerpts from Sue, interspersed with writings from publications called The Shadow Exploded and Carrie: The Black Dawn of TK, and a few other things. The quoted writings from the aftermath give those sections a clinical feel. I should also note that if you are listening to the audiobook and are unfamiliar with the story you should skip the intro with Margaret Atwood and listen to it after finishing the story. The narration by Sissy Spacek was so good. I could picture her from the movie in my mind. Overall I just felt so sad for so many of these characters, most of all Carrie. Her mother might be one of my most hated fictional characters ever. My biggest take away from this book now is to just be kind, it was definitely worth rereading.

It was definitely, not what I thought! This is a slower paced thriller that will keep you guessing. The subject matter is heavy and relevant to current times but I can’t discuss it without spoilers so I’ll just say it is disturbing and if you need trigger warnings and look them up know it could be a spoiler for the story. I listened to the audiobook and the full cast narration by Richard Armitage, Samuel Barnett, Tuppence Middleton, and Vineeta Rishi was absolute perfection. Highly recommend that format. If you’re a fan of police procedural where the main character can’t help but investigate herself and are okay with heavy subject matter then give this one a try for sure!

This was a nice palette cleanser romance read for me in the midst of endless thrillers and horror this summer. I have a small list of romance authors I love and Katherine Center is one of them. The female main characters cluelessness drove me a little nuts but she was otherwise endearing. The audiobook narration from Patti Murin was outstanding. Center’s romances always have so much humor and banter it makes them fun and easy reads. I was rooting for Cooper the whole way and loved the ending!

I’m currently reading Practical Magic 2 and it’s perfect so far, I’m loving revisiting the Owens women and September feels like the perfect time of year to slip back into their world. When The Witches of Cambridge arrived today I was so excited! I had planned to treat myself and buy it for my birthday later this month so now I’ll buy a copy to gift to someone else instead. I’ll also by heading to the theater to see the movie when it comes out!

What’s the last movie you went to? We’ve only gone to 2 movies this year, Project Hail Mary and The Odyssey.

I have been a big fan of Jeneva Rose since reading One of Us is Dead so I was really looking forward to her foray into horror with these short stories and they did not disappoint! All three are sinister and will keep you turning the pages to find out what happens. Even being short stories the characters are well fleshed out and it makes you more invested in the outcome of each tale. After enjoying these I hope she decides to write a full length horror in the future. This would make the perfect addition to your spooky season TBR, Office Cat approved!

Thank you @macmillan.audio #MacAudioPartner for my gifted ALC of Mother Daughter Sister Stranger by Hank Phillippe Ryan, audiobook narrated by Stevi Incremona. It’s available today🎉

This was my first read by this author but will not be my last. It was a fun and mostly fast paced popcorn thriller. You could really feel the anxiety coming from Eliza from the first page. I did get a touch frustrated with her incessant internal monologue, like, just open the door or don’t girl. There were a ton of twists I didn’t see coming and what I did guess turned out to be wrong in the bat shit crazy end! I listened to the audiobook in one sitting, the narration by Stevi Incremona was really well done. Overall I really liked the audiobook and I’m excited to check out this authors backlist now. I’d recommend this for readers that are a fan of books by Alex Finlay or Shari Lapena.

Anna is working at a diner in a dusty midwestern town while she helps look after her grandmother with dementia and her younger sister to help her mother. Two girls were murdered exactly 3 years apart and it’s coming up on the anniversary. While trying to help quell her little sisters fears her grandmother continues to make bizarre statements that push Anna to start investigating the murders herself. I loved the atmosphere of the creepy house in a derelict town. The paranormal vibes are always my favorite part of reading this authors books. Anna could be frustrating as an unreliable narrator due to her own repressed emotions and paranoia but she had good reason and I couldn’t put the book down. I listened to the audiobook and the narration by Saskia Maarleveld was outstanding as always. Overall an unsettling and atmospheric thriller that I enjoyed. If you’re a fan of this authors previous books or Simone St. James I would recommend this one for you!

Do you like paranormal elements in your thrillers? I love it even if it ends up being a red herring. It just makes things more creepy and unsettling.

Thank you @scoutpressbooks @gallerybooks @goodreads for my #gifted copy of The Truth About Ruby Cooper by Liz Nugent. It will be available September 1st, 2026, it has a few different pub dates on goodreads so double check because it may already be available outside the US.

I loved Strange Sally Diamond so when I saw this book under the giveaways on goodreads I entered and was shocked when I actually won! I picked it up on Saturday floating in the pool and finished it yesterday. It has short chapters, multiple parts, and multiple POV’s. I loved the book. I hate Ruby Cooper. If you have trouble with unlikable characters you might have a hard time with this one but honestly, the writing was so good and the story had me hooked, I couldn’t put it down. I just kept hoping for the worst for Ruby, I won’t tell you if my wishes came true. If you’re looking for a dark psychological domestic suspense then I’d absolutely recommend this one. After loving this one and Sally I really need this authors backlist.
