September Wrap UpšŸ“š
This month was my birthday month so I wanted to focus on rereads, continuing series and the new book from my favourite author. I didn’t read everything that I’d planned to since I ended up drawing a lot instead of reading. I’m ok with that since I’d much rather be drawing than doomscrolling which is usually what I end up doing when reading motivation is low.

I reread the first Weather Weaver book so I could give myself a refresher before getting to the rest of the series. I had a lot of fun reading the series. It’s such a cosy read and I adore Nimbus. I want to post a full review of the entire series.

I then reread Jurassic Park and that was a great time as expected. The first time I read it, I flew through it so I took my time this time and I appreciated the little details that I picked up on a reread.

Finally I read Traitor’s Nest by Frances Hardinge. I’ll keep this short because I want to post a full review of it later on. While it wasn’t my favourite book of hers, l still really enjoyed it. And every time I picked it up, I couldn’t stop reading. So Frances Hardinge rereads might be just the thing when I’m in a reading slump.

Overall I enjoyed everything that I read this month which I’m really happy about. My favourite read would either be the first Weather Weaver or Jurassic Park or Traitor’s Nest. I can’t decide.
How was your September reading?

It’s my birthday today!šŸ„³šŸ’š
I thought that I’d post about Jurassic Park since I adore it. Last year I rewatched Jurassic Park for the first time in years and I absolutely fell in love with it all over again.

That began a bit of a dinosaur obsession. And it made me want to read the books for the first time. I’m so glad that I did. It was so fun to see how the movies took inspiration from the books. I also really liked how the books played a lot more into the horror of the situation with them being more gruesome than the movies. It was also interesting to see how the characters differed.

I love the books. In fact I love The Lost World a whole lot more as a book than a movie. I think the Jurassic movie might just beat out the first book but I still love them both so much.

I’ve also included a couple of pictures highlighting some of the Jurassic Park and dinosaur stuff I’ve gotten since my obsession beganšŸ¦–

My autumn reading plans. September is my birthday month so I wanted to focus on comfort reading. I’m hoping to do some rereads, continue some series and of course read the new Frances Hardinge.

October is going to be all about middle grade horror. I’m so excited! I have so many potential books on my TBR for October. If anyone has any middle grade horror suggestions, I would love to hear themšŸŽƒ

In November I’m planning to read books that give me all the autumnal vibes. That mainly means mysteries, supernatural stuff or anything set during autumn.

I love this time of year so I’m really excited for my reading plans. What are your autumn reading plans?šŸ‚

My August wrap up. I’ve ordered these reviews from my favourite to least favourite reads. I wanted to read books that gave me summer vibes this month. That mainly meant reading books set during summer or featuring lots of water. My mental health was very up and down this month especially at the start of August which definitely impacted my reading. Thankfully I felt a lot better overall towards the end of August. #summerreading2026 #middlegrade #sapphicbooks #middlegradebooks #middlegradereads

Happy Pride month!šŸ„³šŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆ There is just something so comforting and sweet and special about queer middle grade. This book is a perfect example of that. It also feels even more special to me because of the excellent anxiety representation. I could see so much of myself in Juniper. She really struggles when it comes to talking to other people. She’s terrified that she’ll embarrass herself so she doesn’t reach out to people. However, that just results in her feeling even worse and so alone. Drawing is the one thing that helps quiet her mind. And on top of that, she also gets wound up in a quest to help a princess from another world get home. That princess is Galatea who is incredibly unimpressed with our world and that makes for some hilarious moments. Galatea and Juniper have such great banter and they are absolutely adorable together. Juniper also ends up making some wonderful friends along the way and that made me so happy. I’d highly recommend this book especially if you want something to put a smile on your face.

Time to rave about another Frances Hardinge book which I always love doing. Cuckoo Song hit even harder on a reread, I enjoyed it even more the second time around. I was completely immersed in the world and characters. Speaking of characters, Frances Hardinge always writes such good protagonists and Cuckoo Song was no exception. I loved Pen and Violet too and their relationship with the main character. However, I think what really made this book resonate with me was the way I interpreted so much of it as a mental health metaphor. Triss tries so hard to fit into the little box that she’s expected to fit into. She pretends that everything is ok even though it’s definitely not. She wants to protect everyone else but doesn’t see the point in protecting herself because she thinks that she doesn’t deserve any better. She knows that she feels different and she hates herself for it. But she gradually learns that even though she’s not the same person she was before, that difference doesn’t have to be a bad thing. And although it can seem easier to not confront things, it ultimately does more harm than good. If things never change, things can’t get better, you can only stay the same as you were.

The Demon Sword Asperides is just such a fun book. I had an absolute blast reading it. And one of the main reasons for that is the titular Asperides. I’m obsessed with how sassy that sword is. I actually had trouble narrowing down my favourite quotes because Asperides just has so many hilarious one liners. This book made me laugh quite a lot. That’s something that I always enjoy and tends to cement a book as one I love. The banter between Nack and Asperides was particularly funny to me and I loved it. This book also features a pair of really awesome sapphic knights and they were great. If you’re looking for something really fun to read, I would highly recommend this middle grade.

I never thought that I’d get so emotionally invested in a zombie that he would make me tear up. However, that’s exactly what happened when I read this book. Santiago has my whole heart and his entire storyline in this book made me so emotional. I also really loved the friendships that developed, they were so sweet. I loved the fact that there was ADHD rep in this too. And following the characters trying to hunt down some runaway zombies before they caused too much chaos was a lot of fun. Be warned for the squeamish though, this book gets gross. Like shockingly so for a middle grade and I loved it. I suppose that comes with the territory when a large focus of the book is on decomposition and cadavers. Overall this was a fantastic read that I would highly recommendšŸ‘»ā¤ļø

The Mossheart’s Promise is a middle grade fantasy involving fairies, found family and a frantic quest to save the lives of those trapped within a dying terrarium. Ary was a wonderful main character to follow. Her empathy for the other creatures was beautiful. She understood why they sometimes did horrible things and she couldn’t hate them. I also loved the characters she met along the way, including my favourite grumpy newt and Shrimp, the sweetest pill bug. There was also some lovely LGBTQ+ rep in this that made my heart happy. I also really loved how this book criticised the idea of being the chosen one. It showed how unfair it was that the responsibility of saving everyone was placed on the shoulders of children simply because they were deemed the chosen one. While everyone else could use it as a convenient excuse to do nothing and feel no guilt. Overall this was such a fantastic read and I can’t wait to get to the sequelšŸ’š
