what a day. what a past two years. what a journey! thank you to everyone who believed that i could do it even when i was starting to believe i couldn’t. un aplauso para mami y papi. i hope you’re proud of me. un aplauso para mi hermanita. i hope you’re proud of me. un aplauso para gisele (@its_moxie_babes). i am so proud of you, my soulmate. undergrad, work, master’s. to know you is to know love so strong that i can feel it in my bones. may we be together in every lifetime (but may that lifetime not be in escuela again 😭). un aplauso to all my peers that i got to know during my time at Hunter. even to the ones i didn’t get a chance to know, we are the future. un aplauso para mi. i am so fucking proud of me. since the 6th grade i wanted to be a social worker. i made my dream a reality. i made it. i did it. by @readingbeanjayleen

A fun fantasy read, The Notari Symphony by @skcnwatts! I was able to read the ARC, and a lot of it resonated with me deeply. The story flowed really well, and the POV of each character made me feel like I was really there with each of them. Lots of sisterhood, love, resilience, and healing in this book. All things I need to read about during these trying times! Thank you for the early access, Sana’! 🤎🧜🏽‍♀️ by @readingbeanjayleen
need someone to do your braids? @fallouhairbraiding_ will get you right! need someone to bring whimsy to your events? the party fairy @jo.ni.c will do it beautifully and for everyone, kids and adults! need someone to talk to about libros/books? estoy aquí! before creating this account, following other bookstagramers on my old account showed me all the options i could dive into. it made me curious and excited again about reading, and now i’m here with such a cool crew of folks who appreciate every part about reading! here is the third part of “what’s on my shelf?” do you have any of these on yours? by @readingbeanjayleen
part 2 of “what’s on my shelf?” after i uploaded the first video, i was like “nooooo, i lied to the people!” to be fair, the covers are similar and…i was excited and proud of myself for uploading another video. forgive meeeeee, 🥹. also, i am not blaming thriftbooks at allllllll for my messy behavior when it comes to buying books. if anything, i’m grateful they exist because i’d probably have less books, 😅. i am, however, looking forward to seeing how much i save by holding myself accountable to these goals! i wanted to make saving fun and since reading is fun, maybe saving money will be tol!? let me know if you have any of these on your shelf! by @readingbeanjayleen
took my time reading this week because i was watching the toy story movies to prepare myself for the 5th movie!!! i really couldn’t remember the 4th movie for the life of me.. grateful to be reading again. grateful to be home most days again. grateful for the peace i am finding within my books. current reads: • How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi • Black, White, and Jewish: Autobiography of a Shifting Self by Rebecca Walker by @readingbeanjayleen
happy friday! it’s raining here in nyc and it is a perfect evening to be reading, ✨. this is part 1 of 5 of this lil series i’m calling “what’s on my shelf?” all of the books shown are on the ones comfortably sitting on what is the “sixth shelf,” 🤣. i track the books i own on @the.storygraph and i’m shocked to see that i own over 100 books..i think it might need an update, so i’m going to get on it and report back, 🫡. are any of these books on your shelf? let me know!! (✿◠‿◠) current reads (not shown): • Black, White & Jewish: Autobiography of a Shifting Self by Rebecca Walker • How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi by @readingbeanjayleen

after five years, i was able to visit puerto rico again (with @hahakikijaja_). i’m not sure what to say other than i am grateful to have been able to. yet, even with this gratitude, i feel sadness. so much has changed on the island from when i was a child and i pray for the day puerto rico (and every other colonized and oppressed land) is free from the US. i was able to meet so many amazing people (to name a few: @lola.machine, @earthangelemmy, @chuquisnaps, @g.velez & @artexanateresa) who showed us a few wonderful local places and engaged in important conversations about the state of the island in both its challenges and glory. thank you for taking the time while we danced, laughed, and stood together to speak about what’s going on. in addition to the learning from new pals and the many uber drivers i asked a number of questions to, i did get to experience SanSe for the first time. i supported a bookstore, i saw the most incredible artwork by a local artist, i witnessed bomba and plena (for the first time on the island, ty @earthangelemmy), and i got to see many many cats. volveré a la tierra de mis antepasados y cuando lo haga, sé que todos seremos libres. by @readingbeanjayleen
not a huge reading update, but a me update!! spending a much needed break in puerto rico 🤍. it has been about 5 years, i can’t believe it.. not sure how much reading i will get done, but..gonna read as much as i can because that’s what matters at the end of the day!! i’m starting the black god’s drums by p. djélí clark while my pal gets a tattoo, so maybe i’ll be finished with my second book on the island today! by @readingbeanjayleen
