Book reviews are wonderful, but what do the ratings actually mean?

I think we've all got our own specifics, so I thought I'd share my stars and spice rating system. Thrilling stuff, I know!

You probably won't see one or two stars around here, as I prefer to say they're not for me and move on to the next one.

And my secret (likely unpopular) opinion is that when books hit 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️, I eventually start skipping through spicy sections to get back to the plot if there is one😅

Now I'm excited to read the rest of it too.

Safe to say I devoured Knight and the Moth (as in, finished it literally this morning) and immediately knew I couldn't wait for the paperback 🥲

Together with my spoils: my book, banana bread and iced coffee, it feels like the perfect day to do some writing.

Not a long one but an impactful and (kinda) tough read. I don't usually read sci-fi/dystopian but I'm excited to finally be getting around to this one. Especially as a buddy read with the lovely @the.luna.library ♥️

I loved last month's nails so much I had to go back for more. This time the lovely @nailsbyhester had the final say in which book we settled on and she absolutely ATE with these!

Another one on my TBR that I can't wait to read (especially now cosy season's here). I also don't shut up about it, so is it hardly a surprise what we went with? 👀

Omg it's my September potential reads and it's definitely not almost halfway through the month - DEFINITELY NOT. Ahem.

As many of you know I'm a serious mood reader, that's why I've tweaked it from 'Hopefuls' to 'Potentials' in my case. and while I've been pretty slow with reading this last month, I'm taking a little break from ARCs to start working through my tbr, so let's see which ones I'll get through.

Shockingly I already have my October spooky month books picked out, so those will come on time I swear 😂

Happy Level Up For Love UK release day @lenorawoodswrites ❤️

I had so much fun with this story, thank you again @arcadia_books @quercusbooks for letting me jump in early with an eARC.

Academic-turned-competition rivals Reagan and Wesley have always pushed each other. But six years after a heated encounter that quickly soured, Reagan wasn't exactly thrilled to see Wesley in the Dungeon Master's seat. Pitted against each other both in-game and in the real world, old rivalries flare up and, with it, sparks start flying.

As a D&D player and video game lover, I was equal parts curious and anxious to see how the book was going to marry both its 'real' and 'campaign' stories together. The transitional scenes really replicated the feeling, immersion and excitement of sessional play, as well as the players' reactions throughout. But it's also important to note that I feel confident you can enjoy the story without knowing a thing about video games or D&D.

Another thing I loved was getting to know Reagan at the same pace that her new group did. She's quite argumentative and standoffish in the beginning, making her hard to warm up to, but once we understand more about her back story, the rest comes easy. Mona is her opposite, all bubbles and impulse, and she made every moment she was in tremendous fun. Likewise, Wesley is an enjoyable antagonist – ahem – MMC who does a great job at knowing when to press Reagan's buttons and when to concede. He's designed to disrupt her, but also to push her to be the best she can be.

Even with some (very) teeny gripes, it didn't overshadow how much fun this was to read. It's clear that Lenora Woods writes from the heart, with easy, natural dialogue, great pacing, and just enough dumbassery between our romantic protagonists that the will-they-won't-they is something you can't help but cheer on.

Cosy autumn read: check! I can't believe how beautiful this edition of Twig's Traveling Tomes by @gryffinmurphywritesbooks is. The foiling on the windows and lanterns, the beautiful textured spredges, it's hard to do it justice.

We ALL judge a book by its cover realistically, so I'm glad @thereadingmushroom tagged me in this one 😂

My TBR is a mile long at this point, but I managed to narrow it down. Though settle my internal debate, bookish friends... does a skull count as a face for this? I had a shocking amount of skulls and very few faces.
