Martinique, slowly.

On the French Caribbean island, a private villa suits the pace better than a resort. Three to know: Caribbean Turtle Cove in Les Anses d’Arlet, which sleeps 18 and has an infinity pool and wine cellar; Caribbean Blue Cherry, over the François lagoon; and Plongeoir + Perchoir in Le Diamant, two houses with nine bedrooms, about 500 metres from Cherry Beach.

Air Canada and Air Transat fly up to 18 times a week from Montréal and Québec City, and there are four weekly nonstops from Toronto this winter.

Antarctica, the long way round. 🥶

The 2028 circumnavigation sold out, so @Ponant’s @lecommandantcharcot is doing it again! The 59-night voyage leaves Ushuaia on 11 January 2029 and covers about 23,000 km of coast through the Bellingshausen, Amundsen, Ross and Weddell seas, with a night in Hobart.

Don’t have 59 nights? Emblematic Antarctica runs 10 nights, with flights and a Buenos Aires hotel night included. Fares start at US$15,450 per person.

Three of Ontario’s parks just hit 100% fall colour! 🍂

@OntarioParks’ 9 October report puts Algonquin, Arrowhead and Oxtongue River–Ragged Falls at full colour, with 40 to 50% of the leaves already down. If you’re in Ontario, go north this Thanksgiving weekend. The south, from Mono Cliffs to Sandbanks, is at 30 to 70% and should peak around 17–18 October.

If you’re coming from further away, this is one of the world’s great autumn drives, about three hours from Toronto: sugar maple, red oak and birch across the Canadian Shield. Day-use permits open at 7 a.m. ET, five days ahead, and Algonquin and Arrowhead sold out last weekend.

Europe’s border has gone digital, and passport stamps are out.

The EU’s Entry/Exit System has been fully operational since 10 April 2026: a face scan and fingerprints on your first crossing (face only for under-12s), free, nothing to apply for. ETIAS, the €20 travel authorisation, still has no start date. ABTA counts 60+ fake sites already selling it.

Saint Lucia is putting its heroes underwater.

@belowsaintlucia places 31 sculptures off Anse La Verdure in Canaries, on the west coast, each honouring someone who shaped the country, including Dame Pearlette Louisy. The Saint Lucia Tourism Authority says it opens this winter, with no date yet. The sculptures are built to become reef.
